Just gets better and better!!!! :-) Whats that sub frame from? I'm keen on fitting an MX5 sub frame before I venture into twin turbo land as my stock axle wont take much more. I think the mx5 is only a little wider hub face to face. The new subframes from a BMW 1 series it's significantly better than the mx5 stuff. The Kadett is 1300 mm hub face to hub face ish and the mx5 is 1427mm so a little wider The BMW is 1560mm wide and with the new wheels at 10j it will make the car 1810mm wide wheel lip to wheel lip!!

In what way is the 1 series rear setup better than Mx5? I figure it has a much stronger diff than the Mx5 one to start with?
But for me I cant go wider as I want to keep the Viva sleeper spec, plus bmw parts like that would still be expensive here in NZ. Supply & demand...

Inspirational. I've been following your build for some time but this has given me motivation to get my Kadett C build back on track. Keep us updated.

Yes the diff and its ratios are definitely one reason for opting for the BMW stuff especially given I'm running the beemer gearbox too. Then there is the overall design/strength and adjust ability of the BMW setup compared with the MX5 - remember the MX5 is over 20 years old and the BMW is still current. See comparison pics below: This is the BMW And this is the Mazda I totally appreciate the issues with width and if going wide was out of the question then the Mazda stuff would be fine. Saying that both Mazda and BMW setups could be narrowed if required with a little thought.

That Bimmer rear end does look nice. But compared to my old live axle the mx5 setup looks just as lovely :-)
Yeah I think the mx5 rear end measures in at around 1625mm across the outside faces of the tyres against 1545mm on my Viva. I have a little extra room to push my wheels out and if needed I could roll my arches as well.
I figure it would be even more of a squeeze on a T car as chevettes are a fair bit narrower than Vivas. So yeah..mx5 for me. It will have to be a 1.8 rear as more ratios are available plus you can fit in the much better Torsen diff.
I'm gonna watch your swap with interest anyway.. hopefully gather some ideas :-)

As he new F/G stuff i ordered ages ago had arrived i couldn't resist having a little play with it - basically to work out how wide the kit was compared to how wide the car would be. The results were a little disappointing but expected. Front wing trial fit - not actually that bad for cheap F/G. I will say they are on the flimsy side though. Then for the rear extensions And the front extensions I really like the look already and i can see some serious potential however after some rough measurements I'm somewhere in the region of 100mm too narrow still. Poo. After some more mincing around i decided to actually get on with what i was supposed to be doing. My main mission with the car at the moment is to get it fully fully stripped down to just a bare but rolling shell so it can go on a little holiday for some exciting modifications While i was there i thought i would take some pics along the way to remind my self of how clean the shell is. Its been a long time sine the boot was actually empty of god knows what Quite tidy in here for a car of its age - shame the front isn't as nice Emptied some of the sh1t out of the car to get at the windows - why i have kept that bit of brown sound deadening mat i don't know??? Or the steering lock ffs Now I could actually get in the car i attacked the windows Another successful extraction Check out the parcel shelf speakers haha! As it was the easiest to get to next up was the O/S quarter window I would like to replace all the rubbers if anyone knows of a good supplier? Getting there - i really need to roll the car outside now to sort out the rest

The new subframes from a BMW 1 series it's significantly better than the mx5 stuff. ... what are you going to do about de diff? . . it's almost impossible (i.e. very expensive) to get a LSD for a 1 Series . . not sure that I would go that route . .
