	Hi guys, I know it's a little too new, but really could do with some advice. My Dad recently brought a 2002 (52) Combo van with the 1.7TDi Isuzu engine. For about a month, after about 10mins after starting it, black smoke was coming out of the exhaust and the power was down. I narrowed it down to the EGR valve, so on Friday I whipped it off to clean it. As I thought, it was full of curse word and it had seized the plunger in place. Cleaned it all out and free'd off the plunger. Bolted it all back on and pluged everything back in. Went to start it and nothing. Turns over without a problem but won't fire. Tryed bump starting it and again, nothing, so I put it down to fuel not getting to the engine. A mate came round with his diagnostic tester and it came out with the code P0251 (spill valve). Looking on the internet, this is pointing towards the EDU on the back of the pump. I don't mind taking it off and getting it repaired, but I want to make sure that it is definatly that. Is there anything I can try before hand? and also, how the hell do you get to the thing? It's bloody tight! Thanks guys

	I had a similar thing recently with a Nissan Kubistar (rebadged renault...) Did you check the EGR valve solenoid isn't burnt out? They get very hot when they are stuck open, and if it's failed it could be pulling the ECU reference voltage line down and causing random error codes and non starting - which is what happened to me. Try unplugging the EGR valve and see if it starts.

	if you pull the ecu off the pump and take the back off it you can usually see the burnt joint on the board.i have re soldered these before and they've worked spot on

	Scary: There is no wiring to the EGR on the Astra. Looks like this: I'm guessing it's all done through the vaccum on the right. BTW, this isn't a picture taken by me. Borrowed off the Astra OC forum. Tonka: Was going to open it up just to see if it was an obvious one. Have read that you can do it yourself. It's the getting it off that I'm not sure about. Going from the top of the engine I can see it, but I can't see any of the bolts or the wires, let alone reach them. Jacked the car up and got underneath a little and it looked just as hard from that angle.

	Was looking at this again today. I got the EDU off the back of the pump. The connecter had a fair amount of diesel in it. Took the back off it and had a look, all looks fine. I couldn't get the board out as there seems to be something holding in on, I'm guessing you have to de-solder the plug to release it? Put it back together and put it back on the van to test it. The fault code went and the dashboard light went off, but there wasn't enough power in the battery to start it. Put it on charge and retried, after about 15 seconds of cranking, the warning light came on the dashboard again and the P0251 fault code returned Took it off again and there was more diesel in the connector plug Any ideas/help? Please

	After looking really closely at the EDU board, I found 5 dry joints, so I resoldered them and still nothing, so I've sent the EDU off to get repaired.

	Still having problems with this. I sent the EDU off to a specialist as it still wasn't working when I plugged it back in. Specialist phoned me up and said that there wasn't any problems with it on the bench test and confirmed it by putting it on his test Astra. Refitted it today along with a crank position sensor and nothing still. Turns over fine, but just won't fire. One thing that happens is when you let go of the key after it turning over there is a beep. I'm guessing the imobiliser is acting up, but I can't find any info about it apart from in the user manual, which is curse word. Any help please guys?
