a few years ago??? Well, I'm pretty sure this is one... it's on a '99 "V" Plate... and is the ONLY maestro I've EVER seen to not have any rust on it!!!

That is odd, isn't it? Although there's a rust free Maestro van near where I live (odd, considering I've seen it working) but it's not as tidy as that. Must be near new to be wearing that plate too, unless it's a private plate.

There was a large number of 'Kits' found in a shed that were destined for foreign climbs, but then the order got cancelled.
They were built up over here, and registered as 'new', hence why that one's a 'V' plate.....
VERY bizarre!

You know there's a Chinese company who builds Maestros under a different name, with a 1300cc diesel in it if I remember right.

Wasn't it a garage near Ledbury that was putting them together? I'm sure I drove past it once on the way home from BVF or something............

From encyclopedia.thefreedictionary.com/Austin%20Maestro"...the Maestro refused to die, and after an abortive attempt to sell the Maestro production tooling to a Bulgarian company in the mid-90's left hundreds of Maestros in CKD (Complete Knocked Down) kit form. By the turn of the millennium it was still possible to buy a brand new Maestro, although only in left hand drive. In 2003, yet another attempt to bring the Maestro back from the dead has seen the production tooling go to China, where the car is very much back in full-scale production."

There was a 'T' registered one on ebay recently that went for a very reasonable price. I decided not to post it here on the grounds of decency and the possible abuse I might get..... I have to say though, there is something unpretenious and workmanlike about these little cars. Anyone see the 'A-team'd livery turbo van version on Ebay some 3 months ago? The modifications were funny, but the reserve of 1,500 was not....

There's a Sherpa just down the road from my house that was painted as the A-Team van until about a fortnight ago. Now it's brush-painted in two tone and yellow dulux with yellow wheels (it's as ugly as it sounds, and I kind of liked it as an A-team van! ;D ;D)
And I know, I'd be happy if a crate full of brand new Volgas and Trabants turned up locally! ;D
