hi all
the front subframe of my 1991 passat b3 1.6td decided to give up the ghost yesterday under braking and let go of the bottom arm.
finally got the car recovered home and now need to sort something soon i either break it for whay i can quickly or find a new subframe and replace it.
other than:
engine old skool deep dish alloys and tyres rear disc conversion coilovers
what else is worth taking off to sell
or
any ideas where i can find a sub frame? i have filled in all online part finders, done ebay and forum wanteds
cheers

I'd assume these are similar to mk2 golf subframes - maybe interchangeable - a lot of other stuff is.

Awesome cars, I'd fix it up, like dez says, if it's straight just weld it up wack a heavy gauge plate over the crack and rock on...

it well rotten on the ends and looks like it been welded in the past on both sides so only a matter of time till the other side goes. my mechanic mate looked it over as well and said a replacement frame would be the only real option
seam to be strugglig to find a new frame so looks like it going to be broken
is there any parts people want i am going to strip it quick to get it off the drive so a shopping list would be easier

hi i think i have made my mind up it makes more financial sense to break the car now and recoup what i can against what it owes me. if anyone wants a specific part please let me know it has coilovers less than a year old, wheels and tyres less than 5 months use, engine with 110k on it just had full service on it brakes all round are less than year old as is rear brake conversion.

you only broke it a couple of days ago! i'm sure if you pop a wanted request in one will turn up sharpish. it really looks a clean shell and you'll regret it!

yeah that's tidy as hell, mine was a complete do with 300k on the clock a list of minor problems as long as your arms and a bent front wishbone and a wonky bumper where i crashed it and i still got £450 on ebay, the new owner was dead chuffed!
You'll kick yourself for breaking it, a lot of work for not much reward unless you have the shell hanging around for years so it can be picked clean, you'll have loads of stuff left over that you'll have to bin... for the sake of a hundred quids worth of subframe (pessimistically) and an afternoon tinkering...

take a couple of hours to change subframe on that at most, easily available aswell and not that expensive if you look in the right places, ie vw forums. if its as tidy as it looks it makes no financial sense to break it at all.

i know what you all saying but i now in the frame of mind for a new car.
the car is mint and if anyone wants it for £600 its theirs 112k 1.6td with the wheels job done
or i will take wheels off, coilovers off, brakes, engine and few trim bits then get the shell taken away should get around the 600 for those bits easily the wheels and tyres are only 5-6 months old

If this is the car I sometimes see lurking in the Screwfix car park then I'd say it looks way too good to break.....
Pretty sure there is at least one of those Passats in the VRS scrappy at Badgers Cross, Somerton that may be able to donate a subframe.
