Update time!
Wilwood kit has all arrived, they don't fit behind my wheels so they're being sold and I need to find some that fit over them.
In other news I took it to Abingdon for a trackday on Friday which was epic, till it broke.

The throttle butterfly spindle snapped but luckily at 16:45 right at the end of the day. I had to get the AA to take me home.

Just ordered at set of these in 15x7 ET25. 3 - 4 weeks until delivery. Should look good with the Wilwoods and improve handling being lighter than the Compos.

Urrrgh, bloody old cars. I was supposed to be going to the MX5 National Meet tomorrow and be on the Moss Europe stand. No chance now. Stripped the old Throttle Body off and as suspected one broken throttle spindle. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr The replacement arrived yesterday but as is often the way with used parts it's been stripped of pretty much everything. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr I went to swap over the various bits and rounded off 4 bloody screws. I don't have the time to drill them out or find replacements before tomorrow. Rather than take the MK2 instead I'm going to soldier on with this and get as far as I can. Sometimes I really hate my hobby.

This is a really cool car, no idea how I missed it.
An MX-5 has been high on my list for a while but due to time/space/practicality I haven't bothered. Think I need to fix that and sell some other stuff to make it happen!

Do it Mark! Update time. Managed to find the time (i.e took a day off work!) and headed down to Skuzzle Motorsport in Winchester to steal one of his lifts for the day and fit my WIlwoods. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr As probably mentioned earlier in the thread I realised after I ordered these they wouldn't fit behind my beloved Compomotive MLs. For the time being the car is running on some Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2s I swiped off our Max5 racer. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr I've ordered some of the same wheel but in Gold which I'm waiting to arrive. Today there was an organised run out to a pub and for lunch and then to Goodwood via some nice roads which seemed like the perfect opportunity to bed the brakes in. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Next up Farnborough and District Motor Club's Sprint Royale on Sunday. Looking at the others in my class I've got my work cut out! Screen Shot 2015-09-27 at 19.51.32 by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr

Yesterday was race day! I took the Mazda to the Farnborough and District Motor Club Sprint Royale. Running in class 5 for road going cars over 2000cc (the supercharger makes it 1600cc x 1.6 = 2560cc for equalization) was going to be tough. In my class were 7 runners including a supercharged Mustang GT, an MG SV and an S14 200SX. My main target of the day was a Mini Cooper S JCW as we're both 1.6 Supercharged and similar power to weight as he has a bit more power than me. Arrived and ready for scrutineering: Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr In the queue for the first practice run: Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Another queue shot: Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr The Mustang retired with a broken gearbox and I managed to beat the mini and bagged 2nd in class and 25th overall out of 80+ entries. I even beat a Metro 6R4!!!!!! Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Here's a vid of the 2 practice runs and 4 timed runs: Such a great day and already looking forward to the first sprint of 2016.

Congratulations, good work beating a 6R4. Was the Mustang the one that was at Abingdon earlier in the year?

Yes that's the fellow. He was stuck in 2nd gear after the first practice run.

A cracking pic from Sunday’s sprint. Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Having ended the season in this car on a real high with the 2nd in class trophy it’s time to focus my attention on 2016. Winter is a time for plans, upgrades, improvements and repairs. The next 5 weeks will be consumed by the Race Of Remembrance prep and competing there in Skuzzle’s MK2 Aero Monster but after that attention will be back on this wee beasty. For 2016 my aim is to compete in all three Farnborough and District Motor Club Sprints (Dimanche, Abingdon CAR-nival and Royale) as well as at least one competitive round at Gurston Down Hillclimb. This time I’m wanting some top step action in the class as well. With that in mind I have the following list to work through before April. It’s a tall order budget wise when factoring in I also want to run the MAX5 racer in a couple of rounds of the MAX5 championship. • Rust repairs to the sills (Rust really isn’t lighter than carbon fibre). • Repair/replace cracked peddle box. • Some more sprint/hill suitable rubber with more grip from cold. • Get the car set up and corner weighted. • Adjustable cam pulleys for a bit more power. • 2.5 Sport rear brakes. • Finish plumbing the extinguisher in and battery cut off pulls (it won’t make me faster but BecauseRaceCar). • Purchase and fit some proper 5 point 3” harnesses. • Adjust the seat to lean back a bit more. • Fit passenger bucket seat (lighter than standard seat and I need to run both seats in my class as per the regs). • Steering wheel hub spacer to improve the driving position. • Fab up and fit some door bars to the Cusco/Safet21 4 point cage for a bit more chassis rigidity. There’s probably some more stuff to add to that list that I have forgotten.

My new wheels arrived a couple of weeks ago and I finally got around to getting the tyres swapped over and the wheels fitted today. Off with the old: Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr On with the new: Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Exactly the same, just a different colour. The white ones will be returned to their proper home on the Max5 race car. I've also picked up some vernier cam pulleys: Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr The plan with these is to get some custom ground cams from Kent and with these bolted to them see how much more power we can get out of the old girl. Currently at 190bhp-ish at the wheels and hoping to get her over 200bhp at the wheels. This will be a winter project along with a lot of other things that need doing ahead of the 2016 Sprint season. Before all that kicks off there's the small matter of The Race of Remembrance 1000KM endurance race at Anglesey in this weapon: Untitled by Nicholas Horne, on Flickr Tune in to MotorsTV over the weekend of 7th and 8th of November to watch it spitting 3 foot flames live on TV. The start of the race is Saturday night 4pm - 7pm and the remainder 10am through to 4pm on the Sunday, I believe the coverage is non stop.

Great stuff.
Looks like you've got a winter full of work there. Good luck for Anglesey and here's to next season.

Build threads are great but for a while I've been wanting to do something a bit more. So with that in mind I have stared a blog. teamhorneyracing.wordpress.comInitially I'm just spamming it up with posts to document the last 4 years with the car. Once that's completed I'm hoping to do a weekly article. It could be based on an event attended, a mod completed or a thought piece on something MX5/motorsport related. I hope it's of use/interest to some people.
