I have been toying with the idea of supercharging my spare 2.0 litre 16v Renault F7R engine (150bhp standard ) on the cheap . First of all i am not looking for silly boost hence want a setup that will work on standard compression ratio . 6-7 psi would be nice . I am not worried about mounting the s/c or getting the setup mapped as i got these allready covered. All i need ideas for is the type of s/c to choose . Reading about the differences between 3 types , i was sort of stuck between centrifugal and twin screw types . But seeing the centrifugal stuff go for silly money , i am biased towards the twin screw type . Anyone know of an easy to source / cheap twin screw s/c to suit a 2 litre engine ? Muchos thanks in advance peeps

if its only low boost, the eaton m45 has been fitted to several 2litre engines with good results ;D its either that or the merc fitted m62 if you can find one cheap enough

like he says,
The m45 came fitted on BMW minis and gets chucked for an upgrade (or used to a year or two back) cheap and good for 2 litre.
But I would say to go for bigger if you can, you can underdrive it and fore-go an intercooler.

M45 came on the bini and on the smaller engined mercs, the mercedes one is much more user friedly for fitting and plumbing.

The small eaton M45 is a bit tiddly really. Will be ok to 200hp but not much more. You are off the end of the compressor map anything over that.
I am putting together am M90/2.016v vauxhall combination, to give some idea! The M90 is from the 4.0 Jag XJR
For "normal" use the M62 from the 2.3 mercs would be a good choice I think

YZN has nail on the head, i think the toyota one is spot on for a F7r i don't know what space is like in your car, but i reconed when ads was still is concidering it it would be very easy to mount up in a 19. if the Large Powersteering pump is removed. and the alternator and pas pump from a clio valver fitted it would take up no extra space in instalation. it would however mean longer pipe runs than an eaton. however makes it ideal for fitting cooler. plus the toyota offers option of a clutch which could mean a eco mode.

Thanks for all replies people It sounds like m45 is the one i am after . I am not after changing the c/r or so i want something i can bolt on and run on the standard ecu after a live mapping session . Although after seeing pics of the toyota sc14 ,i am quite interested to see where i can get one on the cheap as it looks just the right fitment for F7R as mentioned . yzn & w201lorinser ; I am running a non p/s setup allready so i have extra space for the s/c . Any ideas what the rough dimensions of the sc14 are ?

Thank you for the link mate ,lots of usefull info there I did not realise it was a roots type charger which was not really what i was after due to heat it creates but still like the idea of its simple and easy to fit design ,especially the magnetic clutch bit an intercooler should not be too hard to fit etc . Now the question is where do i get one from ?

m45 from a merc compressor has a big bypass built in that is easily converted to run with a vac actuator and is teflon coated . the toyota blower isnt designed to run for long periods and if you find one its going to be well used . i pay 150-200 for the merc unit and there are always a few on the bay

I use the later version 2002 on which has a stepper motor to control the bypass , remove the motor and use a sleeve to attach a vac actuator from any modernish diesel turbo , I used one from a tdi passat

Got an Eaton M45 and M90 for sale lol Also got a 5th injector controller if interested.
Right sales pitch out of the way, The M45 will do 7psi on a 2.0 but no more - it will be maxed out. M90 will also work well but not on a cheap converted N/A job unless the bottom ends are very tough and you use water injection to prevent detonation. Also M90 will be well over 10psi even at low supercharger rpms.
