Finally got myself a car that I like! It is pensioner spec and has a 'suntop' for wind-in-your-hair motoring! I'll put more pictures up once it stops raining (Oh the irony)

That webasto looks the same as the one on the gf's Mini, you may end up having some wet lap problems with that!

Alan, good to see you've gone at got something that you like Is this Vek's old one? Certainly looks very tidy. A couple of things - PLEASE don't just go modding it by 'trying things out' on it. Please? Get a firm idea in your head of how you want this to end up. Make sure that idea/vision is crystal clear. Stick to it. Don't deviate, don't waver, don't falter.... Look at how Dez turned your Lada into the car you always wanted it to be. Did he do this by luck or by having a plan? Even if you think you can't do the work yourself, don't worry about that....you know we will all help if it means you get to see your plan through without descending into 'other stuff' appearing on the car. Be firm, be decisive, be focused. Here is a good starting point for you: retrorides.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=85765Remember - keep it SIMPLE. Clean & simple is what really works on these and I can't wait to see you riding something you've made super cool. DO IT!

Simple?! I wanted to do this..... Only kidding - it wouldn't work on a 5 door. I think rally spec is the way to go. If I make it over to A52 next weekend I'll get some ideas then.

Since you have this lovely (ok, not really) brown interior I would use it as a focus point.
So paint the body in beige, colour tint the bumpers, slammed and put some 13x7 alloys (today's suggestion is Alleycats) on it.
Sometimes, it is that easy.

I like the rally idea but i'm not convinced it'd work on a 4door... In an attempt to prove myself wrong I shopped some rally type hoops on (mine actually - they used to live on a micra) and a prefacelift front end. Not bad if you ask me, refreshing to see one without any dish tbh. I'm looking forward to seeing how it ends up, but please for the love of god get rid of those wheel trims!

If ever a car needed an AIDs sticker. In all seriousness this looks like a great starting point, looks like it's in great nick and the white makes it the perfect blank canvas. In my opinion, some 13x7's with polished dishes and coloured centres (the purple on the wheel trims works... minus the wheel trims) and the obligatory drop will have this looking properly smart.

NO DROP, NO LOWS, NO STICK.
Any suggestions which do not involve me getting the angle grinder out?

NO DROP, NO LOWS, NO STICK. Any suggestions which do not involve me getting the angle grinder out? TBH? No, not really, there's not an option of 'modifying' that car that wouldn't result in needing to lower it. Rally version won't really work, esp with a Webasto-style sunroof. I guess the only real alternative is to try a '4x4' look? Nudge bar, spots, whippy aerial, lamp guards, chunkier tyres. Failing that, leave it as it is...

how about lowering it just an inch or so and running larger wheels so they fit/fill the arches better? no need to have it scraping it's belly everywhere.
and yeh, can't see a rally look working with the (cool) full length sunroof.

I took three coils out all round on my old Micra, it drove just fine and still cleared the largest of speedbumps.

Probably a better idea to get lowering springs, as the current ones are a little tired.

Look at how Dez turned your Lada into the car you always wanted it to be. Did he do this by luck or by having a plan? I didn't want my lada to be ridiculously undriveable. I had a plan, I achieved it and then I sold it. Sorry to be blunt, but I'm fed up with people fawning over what Dez has done, and in doing so basically saying that everyone who doesn't have the skills/tools/time is rubbish and should just get the hell off of RR and stop cluttering up the board with their curse word. Because that is what it seems like.
