What with all this talk of the Wales and West guys having a meet at the historics, I thought I'd ask if anyone knows of anything cool happening over the weekend in my part of the world (as oulined in thread title). I need to do something, else the troble and strife will have me plastering, painting etc. NOOOOOOOOOO!!!

- just a suggestion!

I'm jsut updating the calendar code at the moment to make it quicker and easier for iRocco to do the calendar stuff. Once its finished we'll put as many dates as we can in for all sorts of retro shinnanigans. I'm planning on adding a thing saying weather RR people will be there For the time being,.. try Retro Cars mag and the other classic magazines.

Just as cool! What's it like? You know, specs etc, and if you have any pictures then we'd be happy to see them. As I said, I'm the local Imp obsessive, I'm restoring a 1975 Hillman Super Imp rally car that rallied/ raced in the 70s and 80s, and just now am kind of in the middle of re-shelling it, using my other Imp, and daily driver, a 1974 Super Imp. There's a picture of the rally car to the left of this post, that's before I decided to give up on the shell repairs, which were going nowhere as the shell was really quite damaged, and decided to reshell it instead. Anyway welcome aboard.

Cheers. Well for those who don't know what a Nymph is its a kit car from the 70s that has Imp running gear. Its a beach buggy type thing. I got it last year and it was blue and a abit rusty. So this year I took it apart ang had it resprayed. Its now VW Fantasia green which is a Lupo colour. It should have been ready for Imp club national weekend at the start of August but I ran out of time Are you a member of the Imp club?

Yep. Have been for a few years now. I doubt I've seen you around, I'm a Glasgow area member, actually I live quite near the Linwood factory where the Imp was made. Haven't been to many shows lately mind you, the rally car still won't be ready yet and the 74, even before it got earmarked for a donor shell, was hopelessly down on power, even with the engine juiced up to around Sunbeam Stiletto spec, and a bit tempermental, so I can't really go too far in either of them just now. Soon though, so I might see you around at a show next year, when both our cars are ready. Look out for a bright red rally Imp, with a white roof, custom made alloy plated interior, and tacky white Weller eight spoke wheels! ;D

The rally Imp sounds cool. Look forward to seeing it.
I should be out in the garage now really. All ive got left are the little jobs but I don't get round to doing them. A mate of mine is hopefully finishing my wiring loom this weekend which mean I will get round to doing everything else. Like bleeding the brakes, putting the oil and water etc.
Its standard 875 at the moment but in a car the weighs less then half a ton its pretty nippy.

An easy job you might try to bring up performance is to fit an electric fan in place of the mechanical ones Imp cooling systems. I take it your Nymph uses a similar cooling system to the standard Imp one? They reckon you can get at least 5 extra horses out of that, and as you say, in such a light car, even a small number of horses makes a huge amount of difference.

I think its the Knebworth classic car show this weekend. I thought it was a VW only type thing there this weekend! Can anyone confirm / deny? If it's a general jobbie them I'm so there, it's a 15 mile blat down the A1 from my place. Anyone else?

It is a general classic car show at Knebworth this weekend. Sunday and Monday I think. I'm going Monday.
Alot of guys in the Imp club don't seem to like the idea of an electric fan. Something about losing power through the electrics to run it so no real power gains. don't know how true this is.

I've been told that it works fine if the engine runs an alternator instead of the dynamo that was standard until late in the Imp's life. If it runs a dynamo it might suffer, I'm not sure.

The eletric fan on Imps issue has been discussed alot on the Imp clubs forum. There other problems aswell. Imp fans need to run all the time and an electric fan doing this will soon burn out its bearings. Thats what I'm told anyway.

I suppose. In all honesty I'm no expert on cooling systems.
Talking of Imps, I really must get round to changing the engine on mine, the one that's in it is running really sick, I'm sure it's a damaged valve or something, I'm getting awful compression on the number two cylinder, but the head gasket seems Ok, and I know I could fix it, but I have a spare one from a rally Imp in my garage, so why tit about with a knackered regular engine when I have a tuned one that runs well?

I'm no expert either mate. So it could work.
I really need to get the Nymph finished but with the weather not being great this year and the winter now coming ive lost my drive to get it finished. (it really is a fine weather car)

You're right enough, it is a kind of summer car, being a sports car really, but just think, if you get it done as soon as possible, then you'll have more of next summer's good weather to work on it, cause it'll be ready, and you wont have to spend all your sunny afternoons in the garage.
