hi guys another job to do is polish up the front end bright work on the corsair, i basiclly have headlight bezels and a grill to strip and polsih up myself, I'm just after some help on how to strip the clear anodizing to polish up. From what i ahve been told is to spray oven cleaner on them leave to soak for 5 mins and then when coatings of rinse of and clean of with vinegar? Then the usual grades of wet and dry to polish up? anyone tell me if thats correct from your own experiences and what else would you do? cheers love from mr slammage who constantly asks questions

Anodising strip/etch is a caustic soda based solution.
5 minutes is unlikely to be enough, but you are better off doing a couple of 5 minutes goes, rather than doing too much.
Having said that it all depends on how thick the anodic coating is in the first place. It could be as little as 10 microns.

I've stripped anodising on wheel rims before using oven cleaner. It did di it but took a very long time. Last time I stripped some, I just used proper straight caustic soda which took the anodising off in a few minutes. Some drain cleaners will also work and might be a bit stronger than oven cleaner.

I recently took the red anodising off a load of old bmx parts using Mr Muscle oven cleaner foam spray. It started working within minutes and after a couple of applications, and wrapping the bits in plastic bags in between, it was gone. A quick rinse with water and a wire wool rub brought off the dullness left by the process.
