just thought i would pop a post on here about my brothers mk2 polo, it's a 1050cc (one of the originals with exposed head bolts) 1985 B reg. after been stood for about a month and then taken on a short drive it's playing up big time, it seems to be using a small amount of water and refusing to run at idle without the choke on half way. also the coolant system seems to be generating no pressure at all.
now about 2000 miles ago (4 months) he had the head gasket done as it had blown water to compression chanel on i think on cylinder 1. the head was skimmed and bolts renewed, water pump and timing belt were also replaced at the same time ( water pump has metal fins).
I am really hoping that it's not the HG again but it seems to me this is a very real possibility, my brother wants to repair the engine but if it's the HG again I fear a new head may be needed and these are like hens teeth at the moment lol
If anyone has experienced this problem before with a Vw it would be nice to find what your resolution was to the issue....
