So there I was, minding my own business when I popped into a mates workshop to see how his '34 project was going when something caught my eye. "Wow!" I said, "That's amazingly cool" "You can buy that for a small amount of English Pounds" Says he... So, I am now the owner of this fine steed: It's a 24v and pedal powered thing, apparently used to whizz around on the deck of a ship. Sadly corrosion has destroyed all the plated parts but the electrics are almost all working, speed controller (variable twist grip) indicators, buzzer, brake light, power meter and the motor. It's not fast but it beats walking. Not sure of the vintage at all and Google is failing me in my research. It is complete bar a reflector on the rear mudguard. Ideas welcome for its re-furb.

Longest possible raked forks, gold metalflake paint, all the plated bits replated where possible or painted in high gloss black with a rainbow metalflake over the top and some pinstriping on the lunch box. Oh and a big wheel on the back... and maybe a flag on a whip-type pole too.
Just yanno.. ideas... if it were mine >.>
EDIT: Had an even better idea! Use the existing wheels attached to a rear axle, the lunch box and seat lowered accordingly, rake the forks and add a wire wheel to the front of larger diametre to the rears, Big Wheel style.

Today, a pair of batteries I didn't order turned up and we got the beast fired up. Trundled around the yard and the farm to everyones amusement then an opportunity appeared. Collect a Discovery from MOT a couple of miles away. Before anyone could say anything, I was off, wobbling down the road. Suffice to say I was in absolute stitches of laughter by the time I arrived. In my mind I was: But I definetly looked Anyway, charging up for some fun over the next few days.

Maybe add some seafaring stencilling. Something like PROPERTY OF MERCHANT NAVY for example.

Haha. Until I scrolled down all I saw was the Volvo. You weren't the only one - I was thinking "what's so epically special about a slightly rusty Volvo...oh hang on a minute!" ;D

super cool, is it legal tho? thers some strict rules about electric bikes, where certain types/powers etc you need insurance etc, i was looking at building one then decided not to due to all the rules.

It's got pedals so I'm in the clear. You MUST have pedals. It's an assisted bike then, not a scootay.

I've owned, bought and sold quite a few electric bikes and recongnise some of the components as genetic Chinesse items. Nothing wrong with that but sorry to say it's probably not very old - maybe 5 years or less. Rusting of the chinesse chrome parts can happen in weeks so that isn't an indicator of age. Nice frame design. I'd be happy to have one as a basis for an upgrade. I've got a 500 watt motor that is a direct (albeit illegal as legal limit is 200 watts) swop BTW really needs a front brake to be UK road legal. Paul H

yes it has pedals but that doesnt mean its legal, they still do have restrictions, ie this and what ever other legal stuff bikes require, I'm not trying to be a dick just trying to let you know that if its not upto spec and a copper wants to be a bell, you could be looking at 6points and a fine.
id love to attach a big motor onto my old bmx, save the traffic in the morning.

Well, aside from the front brake, which I must say I'd not really thought about, I reckon I'm OK. I'm not likely to ride it like a hooligan anyway, really, much.
Lights, reflectors, brakes, bell (horn)........ erm... that's it isn't it?
Cheers for the info though.

If all else fails you could always nick the running gear and stick it on a lowrider bike or similar Love things like that though!
