How difficult is it for an (electronics) clutz like me to put a luminiton system together. Is it pretty much following directions which they have on their site and forum? I am talking strictly of the chip/motherboard as I realise much bodging of 'hardware' coming up, but I am more capable of that - it's just the electronic tricka-ma-gadgetry that baffles me.
*goes on e-bay to find soldering iron*

If you haven't done much soldering, I'd recommend buying a simple electronics kit before breaking out the soldering iron on the ECU. That's what I did before starting on my Megasquirt kit. Places like Maplin do them for a few quid, and it needn't be something daft like a light-up santa, you can get all sorts of automotive stuff too - I got an interior light courtesy delay switch circuit to practice on.

Yeah I think that would be a good idea, ta.
P.S. I am getting my luminition and megasquirts mixed up. I meant megasquirt in my first post.

Ah, yes the Megasquirt manual is pretty easy to follow - I'm about halfway through mine but haven't had any time to finish it off yet The hardware is pretty easy to source too - a lot of the site is a bit US-focussed but it's all GM stuff, so most Vauxhalls have the bits needed. I think the only bit of hardware I need now is an IAT sensor as I couldn't find the right one. Well, that and a built-up engine to hook it all up it to ;D

soldering is easy but yeah - practise on something cheap first! I'd also recommend getting a half-decent temperature controlled iron (even these are only £20ish) to save extreme heat lifting tracks. Just steer clear of the £4.99 Aldi soldering irons and you'll be fine The most important electronics tip I can give is... the silver end of the iron is the hot one. You only do that once!!

'sit destined for the mercedes? yeah Having logistical difficulties at the moment. F*cking off to the other end of the country doesn't help speed a project along, I've found ;D

where are megasquirt kits from? I need one for project evils turbo unit I ordered mine from the States. TBH I think it's a needlessly complicated ordering process, and it took me a while to figure out what the hell I should be asking for! I got mine from www.glensgarage.com

P.S. having a poke about diyautotune.com it shows that the difference between kit form and assembled MS II unit is about $250!
Yikes.

I got mine for the Chamois from Bill Shurvinton. I cheated and got mine built up. For building and testing both ECU and relay box, I only paid £50 extra - well worth the dosh, I think. I've never soldered up a PCB before and thought about it but decided to opt for reliability over kudos. We live and learn. Also got wideband O2 from Bill S. I'm
