Not found a satisfactory way of making a tap like that in th emiddle of a wire without solder.
I normally trace it back to the next plug break and crimp in another wire instead.
Or a strip back a bit double it over and put a crimp around that, only possible if there is a bit of slack though.
I hate PVC tape as it always goes slimy and falls off after a couple of years.
I actualyl like stripping out bodged electrics and repalcing it with proper wiring, it satisfies a deep need for electrical simplicity (ie my OCD)
I took several miles of wire and assorted curse word out of the Esprit: old hands free kits, the remains of alarms, radio installs, random unconnected wires and so on. Didn't make it any faster but it made me feel better!

Oh yeah I know it's not the best, but it's either that or spend an hour getting all the centre console out so you can get to the wire. Solder isn't possible due to the access limitations (through the handbrake gaiter hole usually) and proximity to other wires.
I try and do all my wiring jobs as neatly as possible. Now doing 2 hands free kits a week in brand new Hondas for the dealer due them liking how neatly I fit stuff.

Also second that tape issue. I like the stretchy tape that doesn't do anything until pulled over a joint, then you release bonding elements in it. Just make sure you're finished before wrapping!

I agree with OP. I despise those preinsulated crimps, if I have to use them I strip the insulation off and solder them. Here in NZ I use Utilux or Superlug crimps with the correct tools, in the UK it looks like www.klauke.co.uk/stock these type. There are also correct insulation sleeves for the lugs. As I am an electrician (mains type) I get my crimps from the Electrical Wholesaler I use, maybe you could try a local one of those. The spade connectors used in block assemblies tend to be slightly different as they have the little leg as shown in your second photo this is to keep the connector in the housing. Adrian Adrian

Draper Expert tools are good as well. Been using them for years and always find myself fighting with a colleague over the draper expert sets. The sealy ones we have really suck in comparisom

Everyone loves a picture, That's the type of tool for the job, see the coloured dots above the different sized slots. Red for smallest crimps, blue for medium and yellow for big. They will match the colour of the plastic insulation.
