well the golf isnt going to be ready to use as a winter hack, simply as it has its issues...
so I'm going to rust proof the micra to an extent and slam on some steelies
however to the point...
1 - do i sell the golf?
2 - scrap it?
3 - i bought a garage for the golf and to store the micra, i may as well keep the garage.... the golf has a good shell, I'm thinking either full rebuild of the 1.3, which probably doesnt pull that great....
so my idea is something along the lines of a twin cam 2ltr conversion into the golf and tidy the shell as a project, for experience!
what do you guys think, my mind keeping swinging....
and experience or good ideas/ engine options welcomed

I think if you are asking, you mightn't be that into the golf, so you really don't want to get half way into a conversion before realising it...

yeah exactly my point... but as i have somewhere to do the work, and all the time to do it i should hopfully work through it....
however your point is very valid, but if i have heart and feel i could do it, will have to see how this thread goes.... and be on the road
however i love the idea of doing a conversion and then seeing it run and be on the road

I'd rather 1 valid, constructive comment than 40 "Put a turbo the size of your spare wheel on it cos it'd be teh win'" sort of comments. Based on your posts here and in the tech section about it, I get the impression you don't have much patience for the car, which could lead to a lack of enthusiasm for an alien engine swap pretty quickly. I'm perfectly guilty of this too... Get it running right and move it on

40 views and 1 comment? I thought everyone had an opinion these days What exactly do you want people to say? If everyone gave their opinion then you'll mostly just end up with a thread of people saying "Do what you want", because ultimately it's your car, garage and time that we're talking about. Which of the three options you've listed do you prefer? If you think you've got the enthusiasm to rebuild or convert it, then do that. If you think you lack that, then try and sell it. If it won't sell, scrap it.

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

i do hve limited patients in general... thats kinda my problem, i let myself down far too easily... i think i may just work on the 1.3, get it running nicely and move the car on or keep it.... engine change may well be a too bigger task for me at the moment, and at least with a 1.3 being repaird if i do have to give it up it wont be a total mess

I'd go with sort it and use it. Winter (snow/ice/stuff) won't kick in for a while yet. Well, enough time to get it sorted. I used to have a 1.3 Mk2 and it was pretty good. Would never set the world alight, but one you were moving, it was great. As the thread is lacking pictures, here is my old one: If you did want to put a bigger engine in it, I'd start with a different base. The parts on the 1.3 are different to the 1.6 onwards. Easiest way to do it is to drop the subframe off a GTI and bolt it on. You'll have better brakes and an anti-roll bar and you can either have a 1.8 8v/16v Mk2 engine or a 2.0 8v/16v Mk3 engine. IIRC splicing the looms together will be a pain, but see where the hazard switch is. If the engine you get has a hazard switch in the same place*, the wiring should just go straight into the fuse box. * Mk2 Golf.
