Seen it many times before, but hey... My favourite kind of patina, this. Just looks fantastic. Or should I say... van-tastic? No, I shouldn't. Sorry.    ...and with different wheels. (But I prefer the ones above.)  |

Love it. I like patina over shiney wheels. I rather like slots. No prizes for guessing my favourite guise.

Snap;  vanfest 2009 by route9autos.co.uk, on Flickr As a side note my friend Gayle was driving past Glasgow airport a few years ago and spotted a VW baywindow panel van with BA livery sitting rusting away in a yard. She went in and asked about buying it and they told her to have it if she can collect it. So we went up with a car trailer and whipped it home, not easy with seized brakes. Turns out it housed a turbine in the back, I think for powering up planes. Stank of fuel and had a front bumper about 4 foot deep with a banister round it like a porch. The thing was totally rotten even with a coating of oil and with huge vent holes in the roof it was a bigger project than she wanted so it went to the scrappies minus any useful bits. Dave. |

There was a story on a Finnish VW forum about a -73/-74 VW Bay Window which was used for starting airplanes on the main Finnish airport Helsinki-Vantaa, it obviously had a huge air blower in the back. All original with only some 20.000 kms on it, it had been repainted a few times during the years due to the company owning it changing names but other than that it was rust free and in good shape.
