Morning.
As the subject states, I'm in need of rear wheel drive gearbox to fit an Isuzu 1.7TD lump taken from an Astra.
Had the info but in one ear.........! I recall a Carlton gearbox would fit but which one? Can anyone out there supply? A prop shaft would be useful too.
Very grateful to anyone who can help with the info I need.

The R25 from a Carlton/omega will fit or the 1800 manta getrag box (used on redtops) will work too. The later is more expensive though.

Carlton 1.8 or 2.0...or an Omega V6 from what I have been told.
The Carlton info is right (I currently have a 2.0 box mated to a 1.7 Isuzu lump) but I'm not 100% on the Omega V6 because I haven't tried that myself.

Yeah the V6 is the same bolt pattern and WILL fit the isuzu. The ones to STAY AWAY from are 2.0 Manta boxes, and Straight 6 Carlton / senator boxes (ie 2.6 and 3.0s) as they are different  |

The ones to STAY AWAY from are 2.0 Manta boxes BUT they are the same internally, and can be bought for next to nothing, so don't turn down cheap Manta 1800 boxes cos they're farked..  |

The manta 1800 box is a lot smaller than the carlton/omega boxes as can be seen in this pic from B8D's viva 1.7td thread HERE Manta box on the left So if you have a small transmission tunel and don't want to have to enlarge it the manta might be a better fit. As for propshaft that depends what gearbox you get and what car its going into |

Yes...the r25/28 will fit. The isuzu engine was originally fitted with a f16/18 gearbox (fwd) these boxes Fit the as the f20 on a 2lt 16v xe (the 'redtop') so any box that is used to rwd a redtop will work. As said above the manta box is slimmer however, The omega boxes are supposed to be stronger sonic your going to be raising fuel and boost then the manta box may not like it. My isuzu had 120hp and 200 lbft. |

I have a adapted bellhousing on my 1.7 Isuzu to a type 9 box in the avenger. Are the 1.5td and 1.7td blocks the same though? Just out of interest if you don't mind me throwing the queston in Joncedric? :S
