	Hi guys, Hope you are well. Went to go out in the viva today and it wouldn't start. To cut a long story short checked the usual (fuel and spark) and had no luck, all was well. Pulled off the breather pipe that goes from the rocker cover to the air filter housing and it ran. Watching the outlet pipe on the rocker cover and there is quite a lot of combustion gas chugging out of it, leading me to the conclusion (correct me if i'm wrong) that it was choking the engine as it was turning over causing it not to start. We played about with it a few times (On - didn't start, Off - Started ok) and I'm pretty sure this is the case though. Also, there was a fair bit of oil in the air filter. Anyway... I'm thinking it needs a top end rebuild now. Valve seats, guides and stem seals etc. Firstly, do you agree? 	poor little thing. just as well it looks cool standing still ;D does it chuff out plenty of oily smoke out of the rocker breather when running? if so it's most likely bore wear rather then anything else. wouldn't have thought having it conected would stop it starting thou maybe worth taking some pics of the pipes, inside air filter and pics with it running? really needs more checks, compressing test etc.

	Yeah, it chuggs out a fair bit (white oily smoke) when running. Do you know if it has hardened valves to run on unleaded? I thought about bores and to be fair I agree with your comments, but the breather is connected directly to the rocker cover so was more inclined to say head, especially if the valves haven't been done. I agree, its a strange one about the starting but that's what it seems to be....

	Its common for them breath hard, so a compression test before you starts shouting NEEDS A HEAD GASKET... common that the air filter and rocker breathers get all chocked up and stop them running, sounds like its not getting warm and or always short swift journeys. Clear the breather and rocker cover out, clean up the plugs , fit a new air filter... see hhow it goes from there..

	PS yes that headgasket head set will do, but its twice the price of what you should pay.

	no idea if the valves were done, doubtfull they would have been. previous owner said they might have been but without proof i wouldn't believe that. he did say he put something in the fuel tank... just cus it's coming out the rocker cover doesn't mean it's head related, the engines connected internally. but as the head/valves are most likely worn out due to lack of lead it's worth taking the head off for conversion anyway, but i'd wanna do a compression test and leak down test to see what sort of other wear is shown up before disassembly
