I'm thinking about tail lights...
I'm thinking of buying a car which is missing its rear lights. I can get the correct lights but they will cost me a fair sum. So I thought I could do something "custom".
I'm looking for inspiration for rear lights which are a full set of brake/tail/indicator in one rectangular unit. Ideally a couple of inches tall, 6 or 8 inches wide? Have to be flat mounting and not go around the corners of the car (ie Viva HC rear lights are no good)
Obvious thoughts were Mk1 Escort / Capri (pre facelift)
Also thought about VW T2 but the early ones are too early looking and the later bay ones probably too ugly.
Also thought about Mk1 / Mk2 transit lights mounted at 90 degrees...
Who has some inspiration?

do they mount "flat"? I thought the Golf Mk1 panel was angled? Also might be too tall. 'bout 4" tall arn't they?

The Lada and later model Skoda lights are too tall. I'd thought of Triumph Stag, 2000, Dolly. They'd be going on this: If I buy it.

what about putting the lights inside the boot behind the rear panel? if you use big square lights you can cut the holes in the panel whatever shape you like.

Volvo back as my main squeeze, more boost and some interior goodies on the way.

Landies have lights like that but without the chrome... dirt cheap in pattern form. Or the pattern Lucas lights of that type as per Moggie Minor and loads of others. I'm using that type on my Minx. These kind of things-

Landies have lights like that but without the chrome... dirt cheap in pattern form. Was about to say exactly that... one of my friends has used them on her Mini as front indicators and also as modified rear lights and it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the pic.

Was going to suggest these: from this: as the curvature of the rear panel on the Dodge looks similar. Would look nice with three on either side, but the cost would no doubt be prohibitive.

It already has round lights and they don't suit the shape of the car.
The Datsun 1200 lights look ace, but is that rear panel not slightly V-shaped?

I was moderately sure the Datsun panel while curved is flat where the lights actually sit so you should be able to just cut a suitable hole. Having seen the proposed car they'd go on, the vertical curve would compliment the destination panel nicely too. Ratdat will know better, of course.
