Right, after a drunkenly discussing the Benz situation with my mate in the pub last night, we agreed the time has come to sort it out. So, I need a carb parts supplier who can get me the diaphragm (not the dashpot diaphragm, it's a little one on the fuel inlet ) I need for the Stromberg 175CD - does anyone know of one? We also hatched a plan to put it back on steels temporarily and slam it further towards the earth ;D

i use southern carbs and inj in wimbledon, see if you can speak to dave,he's a very knowledgable guy,and an old friend of mine. if some bl cars used a 175cd,moss mg may be worth a punt, but look up the part number on their website first, otherwise they'll start asking ya the car details.

Stromberg 175CD Yep, Same carburettor as used on some Late model USA spec MGB's to meet certain North American emission requirements that SU set up just could not do. Try some of the MG specialists and explain situation.

It's sort of like that. The diaphragm acts on a spring and brass cup, and there's a small hose going to the inlet manifold. I'm assuming it's something to do with fuel pressure, as it's where the two fuel lines go into the carb, before the float chamber, but I don't know. All I know is, at the minute the fuel is going through the perished diaphragm, down the hose and into the inlet / dropping onto the zorst

Thanks for all the links guys, I'll give them a go. What I could really do with is finding out what this diaphragm is called - as soon as I say diaphragm they start bringing out the dashpot ones, but that's not it...

That's the only other diaphragm I know of in a Stromberg. If you ever need bits for one, I have quite a few CD175's lying about in various states. The needle, jet and spring probably different on yours, but much of the rest should be the same. I can email you an exploded diagram if you want with whatever Saab called the various bits? nutcase (at) blueyonder co uk
