WTF?? What is it with people on this forum dissing my car without ever seeing it?? How dare you accuse my modifications of being a 'bodge' - Have you seen the car? have you even called me up to enquire about the mods? 230bhp out of an m52 is a common mod and there are lots of people who have done it!! I suggest you read WHAT WAS ACTUALLY SAID I. I never said yours was a bodge - just that many of the kits are bodges as is any home made kit (in fact theres only one decent kit available in the uk which is sold by a guy who calls himself alpina527) as things stand the "bodge" isnt necessarily a bad thing - unless someone totally re engineers parts of the manifold then it has to be a bodge - cos the pipework doesnt fit otherwise. ii. 230 bhp is not realistic - ive owned over twenty 6 cylinder E36's so I do have a good idea what I'm talking about. yes you can unlock more power (the engines were deliberately held back because of german insurance laws) but remember bmw themselves only got 231ps from a 3 litre unit that wasnt strangled. the cams need to be uprated to get a genuine 230bhp on a 2.8 rr printouts are all well an fine, but if they're flywheel figures then they're a guess - nothing more nothing less - THEY CANT BE ANYTHING ELSE as you cannot measure anything except power at the wheels. transmission loss via coastdown is not an accurate way of working out the flywheel figure. iii. finally I didnt diss your car - in fact I didnt speak to you at all, I simply corrected SOMEONE ELSE who commented in the thread.

The kit is the alpina527 one ii. Owning 20 E36's is fine - do you have any experience of modding them? lets look at an example - A brand new BMW 320d puts out 177bhp from factory - you put that on the rollers and it gives a result more or less the same as this - who is right and who is wrong - is the dyno operator or the factory lying? Someone else wanted proof that i got 230bhp from the car - I have done so! It is a very common mod and results vary from 215bhp to 230bhp. It also depends on how good the exisiting engine is, how good the remap is (many people don't do this) and also the air filter/bbtb - The airfilter alone on this car is £250 (Samota Carbon Airbox - proven to give 18bhp on its own on a standard engine) - it is the proper alpina527 kit and has a very good map developed by a company that also had a similar model car. The car has full bmw history up until 153k, and the oil used was always 5w30 - i continued this in my ownership. Your so called genuine bhp with cams etc - surely the rolling road would quote that as higher - maybe 240bhp! - would the person who owns the car not quote that figure rather then the flywheel figure which is unobtainable unless you remove the engine from the car???

Gotta say that's a lovely car and that flat torque curve is brilliant for a tuned motor....90% of the Torque from 2k to 6k makes for a wonderfully flexible engine in my book whatever the peak power is.........
