Rovers do not seem very popular here, so thought I would see if I can change that.. so here is a small write up on my 827 Coupe: DSCF6195 by whitelionfarm, on Flickr DSCF6208 by whitelionfarm, on Flickr The 827 is the one with the lovely Honda V6, not to be confused with the later ones using Rovers own KV6 with its woeful history of HGF. The Honda is bullet proof, smooth, quiet and fast. I have had this one about 3 years, and the first thing I did was an LPG conversion using a Leonardo single point setup. That makes the running costs very affordable, which matters as I do about 30k miles a year. I got completely hooked by them and now have a Mk2 Saloon and Mk1 Fasback too - all on LPG of course. It sits a little lower than standard with Tickford springs and shocks. I also added the much thicker front and rear ARB's from the Vitesse Sport, and bigger brake discs from a Mk1 Sterling. The result manages to combine a smooth comfortable ride with really excellent, flat cornering. It is an absolute joy to drive and I love it. The only real weak point is the design of the lower ball joints, which can fail rather inconveniently: ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Lakes09/DSCF6818.jpg?t=1241980476) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Lakes09/DSCF6807.jpg?t=1241980476) That happened on the way home from a touring holiday in the Lakes, so glad it did not happen here... ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Lakes09/DSCF6785.jpg?t=1241980476) Anyway, it was worst than it looked. A new driveshaft and lower ball joint, tyre and replacement wing saw it back on the road in half a day repair time. I am just starting a minor resto - the last owner had plated over the back of the sills and filled the arches with bog before adding a very nice coat of paint. After three years it was not looking pretty, so been cutting and welding for a while, if there is some interest I'll put some pics up later. Cheers Tim

I'm a Rover fan (particularly the 600's) but have always liked the look of the MK2 800's, just never had one...
Any pics of the others you have?

Lovely looking motors - great choice! Had one of these in Gold with the Turbo engine (820 then I reckon!). All cars do indeed have a (or more than one...) weakness, but not all get looked after like they should, and not all look as cool as these do! Maintain it properly, (as I 'm sure you will) and Enjoy it. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

My Mum had a couple of 820s, a mk1 and a mk2, they both went like stink, but the mk2 (a fastback) rolled like a trawler!
A mate of mine had a white 827 (ex-plod I think) that had had different injectors fitted, now the |reaaly went like stink!!

Love the coop! don't see many about now. I have to disagree about the Rover KV6 though. I have a KV6 in my MG ZS180. Great engine and very rarely does it suffer HGF, no more so than any other engine. Unfortunately the rover 16v k series engine suffers it aplenty!

Oddly enough, that looks kinda cool I think ;D More of a fan of the old school, pre Honda Rovers (love SD1's and P5/6's), but nice to see you're looking after that one ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

I do like these big coupes. I was at a car show and there was a turbo one that had TEH biggest dump valve I've ever heard, it was hilarious. He kept sneaking up and trying to freak people out it was that loud ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

Thanks for the words of appreciation everyone.. The two litre Vitesse's were faster with 200bhp as opposed to only 177 in the Honda V6 - but its smoothness is more appealing to me. I know the KV6 is much better in the 75 - I have one! - but in the 800 it had a well deserved poor reputation. Electrical problems are easily sorted with a simple re-soldering of the fuse box, and none of my 800's have any issues there. Here are a couple more pics: ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Coupe%20and%20Saloon/DSCF6717.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Coupe%20and%20Saloon/DSCF6736.jpg) ..and with the Mk2 Saloon ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Coupe%20and%20Saloon/DSCF6752.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Coupe%20and%20Saloon/DSCF6704.jpg) I'll put up a few of the repair work shortly.

Okay, so the Coupe deserves a bit of attention after the "repairs" to the arches and sill ends started to fail... ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2539.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2540.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2542.jpg) So, time to start cutting and fabricating. I am pretty old school and still use the Oxy Acetylene kit I bought 35 years ago to repair my first car. I still think it is such a versatile tool and always does the job for me ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2577.jpg) I tackled the sill first, chopping away the layers of MOT patch and rust to reveal this ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2557.jpg) Inner sill, outer, centre and a fourth skin the goes up to the door opening. A number of small sections were let in to reform the missing bits and join it all togther again, and start building up the sill end ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2564.jpg) I did not have a bit of steel big enough to form the outer skin at the time, so started rebuilding the arches. Not nearly skilled enough for form the compound curves, and of course no repair sections exist - s time to make up the curves in small simple pieces ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2569.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2572.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2574.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2576.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2581.jpg) Once they were in place, and more steel acquired, time to bend up a section of sill. It turned out a bit of plastic drain pipe is about the right radius And the joggle in the bottom face was formed with two bit of angle iron and some hammer time ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2586.jpg) Here it is tacked in place, over long to be trimmed to suit once it was all seamed up ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2590.jpg) Trimmed and closing flange going on ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2592.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2593.jpg) Now more or less done and welds ground back ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2596.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2599.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2601.jpg) ![](http://i115.photobucket.com/albums/n282/whitelion58/Rover%20Coupe%20Arches/IMG_2602.jpg) Its not perfect by a long way - but within acceptable limits of filler and paint to make good - and no more rot for another 15 years... Just got to repeat on the other side, clean treat and stone chip everything. Probably new fuel tank, blast and powder coat all rear suspension, new brakes etc... Should be a fun winter.. Tim

Looks very nicely done. Don't think I'd be brave enough to tackle such obvious (& hard to re-work from inside) panels with Oxy Acetylene torch after seeing the way one of my Preludes had been attacked but that shows the difference skill can make. Love the suave decadence of the Coupe, I could be so tempted by the early Legend Coupe but they're all auto's here & I don't think I could cope with that much decadence! So hard to think of such luxury being potentially worth so little just because they may be overdue for attention or abused.

Thanks - I really do think they are gorgeous looking cars, and massively undervalued. According to DVLAStats website, a total of 179 827 Coupes are left with only about half of those licenced. They are cheap as chips and still being scrapped for the most trivial reasons.
