Hi guys!
I've got a Volvo 240 and I'm trying to fit some 16x7 steels on...which require spacers so they clear the struts.
The problem I now have is that the spacers very slightly touch the calipers, and spinning the wheel a few times has marked the caliper.
I now have 3 options:
1. Grind the spacer down - which I don't really wanna do because they are only about 4mm thick anyway.
2. Grind the caliper down. Only slightly...but is there anything inside that I'll screw up?
3. Leave it alone to grind itself down after a short and easy drive?!
I'll get a photo or 2 up to help explain...
Dan

Oh gawd.. I hate those "universal" spacers with a vengence, they are the worst sort ever and WILL work loose. Get some proper ones made instead!
|
|
To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

I'm a little confused. Are you just using stud extenders and then adding 4mm shim spacers on top ?

They are 32mm spacers from: grayston.biz/wheelnutmenu.htmPart No: SP55 They come as a set of spacers and stud extenders. The stud extenders can't work loose because the hex hole on the spacer slots over the hex part of the extender. That clarified anything at all?!

Yes. That is the sort I'm talking about and they do come loose. I know they look like they shouldn't but they do, all the time. (You can trust me on this)
What you should have is a spacer which matches the PCD and centre bore, and sleeved nuts that will reach safely to the wheel studs.

Oh. curse word! Erm...now I'm a bit more lost! I was gonna get a spigot ring to take up the centre bore difference...but that probably won't work. And even if it does it won't stop the extenders working loose. Any idea of where I can get these spacers?
Or do I just stick them on and see what happens...and hope the brakes don't get introduced to the road at high speed when the wheel goes for a walkabout?!

If you change the thread title to "wheel spacer help" I'm sure someone will be along soon with links to suitable products, or even helpful chaps with access to milling machinery who would make some for you I certainly would NOT run as is, it will be lethal. TBH, I'm surprised they still sell the bloody things.

Have you thought of sourcing some other RWD wheels with the correct offset to avoid the use of spacers ? I wonder if the ones you have are FWD items.

Wheels for a Volvo are a pain to get hold of anyway...so I'd prefer to try and make these fit if I can. With the pcd being 5x108 there aren't many options out there. The standard alloys are 14x6 et15...and the new steels are 16x7 et42. I'm tempted to get the centers flipped (and maybe banded while i'm there!)

Those "spacers" should be illegal. Lethal things.

Sorry i'm not going to be any help, just going to +1 on the spacers being wibblepoo, Ran a set for about 1 week and started to feel wobble. Raised the rear up, there was at least 5mm run-out as the wheel turned. Went to make sure it's done up proper and sheared one of them extenders with just a torque wrench, at about half torque Was a lighter rear than your average too. curse word that for lottery!

Can you give me a rough guide price for a set (2or4) of 25mm and 13mm ford fitment spacers please? I can get +25mm and +13mm studs for them. Thanks
