![](http://www.parkovka.info/wp-content/uploads/2006/02/155a.jpg) I like them. Call me stupid, call me misguided, but I do. I'm thinking a set of black alloys - maybe some blade-like 5 spokes (gasp!), satin black paintjob, slammed to within a rizla's thickness of the road and some choice engine mods... Maybe an amalgamation of the BTCC 155, and the DTM version - keep the German arch extensions but ditch all the wings and huge front splitter for fear of looking like some Barryboys reject... ![](http://fastroadandtrack.co.uk/frat/usergraphics/2794ccbc20cd56eeaf0900335a8fe4f6.jpg) ^ BTCC ![](http://www.cuorialfisti.com/MATERIALE/Materiale%20Storia/155%20V6%20TI%20DTM.JPG) ^ DTM Yeah yeah the Bimmer e30 is better in every way and all that, but I can't help but like these. Pretty cheap too.

You're stupid and misguided.
There, that's that outta the way.
Actually I rather like these. Razor sharp styling that bucked a trend, some hawt goodness going on under the bonnet...
Only the fact that it's been thrown together by bone-idle mediterrainians would put me off.... *ducks for cover as alfisti start throwing stuff*

they're HOW CHEAP?? Crikey, they look like a complete bargain! Decent engines and I guess, with them being 10 years old or so, that any major faults would have been discovered and you're looking more at routine maintainance.

2.5 V6 FWD I think. Based to some extent on the Fiat Tipo, but I don't know how much of the underpinnings they share. They're in that no-man's land between retro and snotter at the minute, so bargains galore! I'd really like one but I have to focus on the Merc. No more daft purchases for me for a while! ;D

Full stripped and race prepped they might well be an interesting and cheap option ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

I should think that the only major cost you would incur would be putting a cage in it. Initially you could just go on a weight-reduction exercise and then add tuning goodies dependent n how competitive it is.... ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

It could be done,... but most of the parts would have to come from jp, so that is just mega bucks, and I don't have that right now!

funnily enough, someone in the Practical Classics parish has just bought one and I've been haring around in it all weekend. It cost a ridiculously small amount of money and should appear in the mag soon enough. It's a 1.8 twin spark, sounds fantastic and goes alright. Torque steers like a loon but the steering's really direct. Loads of fun for the money. I think the V6s are quite hard to find. If you want a cheap V6 get a 164 ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Our new toy's got a weird stutter every now and then that we're going to try and sort out in the next couple of days. And no doubt it will turn into a world of pain. But right now we all love it...

I'm glad there are more fans of them round here! I've never driven one but assume that, being an Alfa, it must be set up for the driver's pleasure. HTW - a hillclimb 155 must be done! Shame they aren't RWD but hey, that's a minor thing really. I'm looking forward to the PC 155 too ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

Do it!
They're fantastic cars.
Early 'narrow body' cars are worth pennies, but come with the 'classic' Alfa all-alloy twin-spark / twin-cam / 8v lump. Avoid the 1.8 as it doesn't come with power-boosting variable timing. (it's essentially the same engine as fitted to my 75 in 2.0 form).
Later 'wide body' cars generally come with the Fiat based 16v TSpark lumps. 1.8s are fine, 2.0s are better - the 2lt has a balancer shaft to smooth things out. There's a handful of 8v TSparks in a 'wide body' shell, but they're very rare and quite desireable.
If you're buying a 16v, check the service history *very* carefully - especially for cambelt changes. Alfa originally scheduled them at 72k miles, but most Alfisti do 'em on 36k. At a push you can make 48k on a belt. They also burn oil, so check really carefully for knocking from the lump. Ask the owner how often they top up the oil - if they say 'doesn't use any, mate', then run away. If they're a knowledgable and careful owner they'll tell you around every 1k miles. (Hard driving, however, can see oil drop from max to min in a few hundred miles).
V6s make a glorious noise, but they're a pig to work on. As I recall, all 155s came with the 2.5 24v lump (don't think it ever got the 12v). Be very careful with belt changes on those - as with the TSparks, you ideally want to see changes on 36k miles, including a full tensioner kit and water pump. (Same applies to TSparks, but also add a variator change). Rear bank belt tensioners have been known to go 'ping' leading to very high rebuild costs.
Any rusty one should be viewed with suspicion, as Alfa galvanised all 155s. PAS pumps are a weakness on 8v cars, and racks have been known to leak. Front suspension bushes can wear quickly if driven hard, changing them transforms the car.
Check all electrics - especially if it's a Super with climate control (it rarely works these days - I'd avoid them myself, unless it's blowing out ice-cold air and there's no visible defects with the control panel). Mine didn't have any real electrical hassles, but, as with anything made by Magnetti Spaghetti, you should check carefully.
For what it's worth, a good 164 handles equally as well as a widebody 155 and isn't *that* much bigger. I wouldn't rule them out.
