I'm looking for a company that re-manufactures camshafts. I've been told by some old-school mechanics that they used to get them re-metalled and re-ground. I spoke to a few machine shops and they looked at me as if I was some sort of nutter! I know it's a throwaway society but I can't get a new camshaft for the V8 (I can for the other cylinder bank, but not the one I need ) Does anyone know anywhere that does it?

Not sure if this is any help, as I don't know too much about your engine, but they have along list of Merc stuff on here. Give it a try, you might come up trumps www.estascamshafts.co.uk/index.html(oops, helps to put the address on!!!! )

Once again, my spare v8 is a 3.5, but of the same era as yours. The cams are mint and you are welcome to them for the price of the postage. I will be suprised if the profile is any different on the smaller engine (they are essentially the same engine).
In fact, why don't you come down in a van, give us £25 and take the whole thing away. It's pretty much complete apart from a few of the cam lifters. Has air con and power steering pumps too I think.

There is nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes

Hi ScrapingScrap - you seem to be my Mercedes Parts guardian angel!!! That would be flippin excellent. I probably can't collect the lot cos I don't have any space! I have a P6 engine and gearbox, a couple of CVH's and a Ford V6 (waiting to be collected) - as you may guess I ain't Mr Popular around my neck of the woods at the minute! If you can let me know how much the postage is (along with the ignition mod) I can get payment in the post to you!
