I've had a 1300 GT engine for my 1.0 litre Mk2 Polo fo' ages and not done anything with it, but on Sunday I got bored so ripped out the old lump and tonight I got the new one in ;D I've got a billion issues to sort before it can run, but it looks nice! It should give decent enough performance for a daily in a car that weighs about 2 grams (WAI!) - apparently, "they" say you can get 85 bhp with just induction and exhaust changes, although I feel that may be wildly optimistic Old, gash engine and equally gash low ratio 4 speed box: No engine: New engine and 5 speed box (donated free by a clubpolo member ) It's a chuffing tight fit!! In ;D It needs shuffling round the engine bay until the mounts line up proper, and the drive shafts look like they're going to be a reet git but it looks great

Later ones, yep I've found some nice stuff like a lighter than on the early 1.0 litre flywheel, choice of normal or bigger clutch (I found a big one in a box of stuff that came with either the gearbox or the engine), that sort of thing. And yes, it was a struggle with a hangover ;D

I did think about going and having a long bath instead when the long drive shaft (which had been resting on the exhaust) hit me on the head ;D

I'm going to do a bit more on it tonight while I wait for bits for customer's cars. It will hopefully be a bit lower soon ;D

I've finally got round to taking the reluctant front suspension apart tonight. The left hand side now has it's new shocker (made my Gabriel, the Stunner tyres of the shocker world), new top mount and lowering spring. I'm putting on a set of boge 40mm ones - 40 obviously isn't anywhere near enough so I've lopped a coil off the bottom as well, but that is as much as you can do without having it unseat when the shock is fully extended. The right hand side is apart and waiting to be re-assembled as the tie rod nut took a billion years to remove. I've reconnected the gear linkage, and surprisingly for VW it worked first time and allowed me to select all 5 forward gears It might need some adjustment once the engine is running but apart from that I'm quite pleased. I've also now got my shiny new rotary fuel pump from Facet - it's a new low pressure pulse-less jobby specifically for bike carbs in cars New spring New fuel pump Car. now with extra bonnet action and fewer pony arch trims

It's been both a good day and a bad day in pizzle land. On the good side, thanks to Graeme (vw) I've got some 13 by 7 ATS classics on the way. Also the front suspension is all back together. OMGWTFATSFTW ;D On the bad side, the front is knowhere near low enough, and whilst taking off the arch trims I found a nasty bit of rot next to the fuel filler neck. Feeling all clever, I thought it would be a good idea to have a look behind the sill trim as well. There's another really nasty, concentrated patch of rot around what was one of the fixing points for the oversill cover thingy. Thankfully the other sill is completely fine Not wanting to be completely defeated I de-trimmed the entire right side of the car ;D
