Any love for these? They replaced the Triumph Acclaim... Basically, I've liked the idea of an Acclaim but can't seem to find a decent one. However a D reg Rover 213 has come up local which I fancy. I remember a mates dad having one for years when I was a kid. I also remember that it rotted pretty horrifically and the front end disjointed from the car at one point The 'Hyacinth Bucket' car from Keeping up Appearances as my dad calls them Any modified ones for inspiration? Google only throwing up standard ones i'm afraid

Janspeed did a turbo conversion for the 216 Vitesse and Autocar tested it and were impressed, but doubt any survive, if any were actually ordered. TWR also did a bodykit for it. As you say, pretty unloved really, but it sold better than the Montego!

I just like the idea of one slammed to the deck with a decent set of deep dish rims and a wacky engine conversion ;D

They're cool in an ironic way (because they're actually wibblepoo, I nearly bought one a few years ago but was put off by the test drive).
If its super cheap get it, they do well on ebay.

213's a better car than the 216, mainly due to being Honda engined. Watch for rust everywhere.

Here's one given the treatment by former retro rides member Adam Slater (Please come back) You might even be able to find a build thread. But for the life of me I cant remember what powerplant it had. Pretty sure something fruity and honderish would slot right in without too much work.

Here's one given the treatment by former retro rides member Adam Slater (Please come back) Off topic but whatever happened to slater? Oh and by the way early 200 series rovers are great. My mum and dad bough a brand new 216s in '89 massively comfy motor and cool when I was 7. Imagine one with a t series turbo in it

1989 Peugeot 205. You know, the one that was parked in a ditch on the campsite at RRG'17... the glass is always full. but the ratio of air to water may vary.

I'm just jaded by the fact that my mum had one for a while when I was a kid, and there wasn't a lot of room in the back...

As far as I remember, this is all Slater ever posted about it. Wow that was a blast from the past,.. I miss the days when the biggest issues we had was the perception of people looking down on other people for not building cool cars every few weeks Still, there is inspiration there to be taken... Adam is still around, friend on facebook etc. (despite the appearance of that thread I did get on with Slater and would love to see him out and about again) he is spending a lot of his time urban exploring and making great photos now days.

Slater had an awesome one. I so love saloon rear ends with long rear lamps, and a full black numberplate surround. One of my favourite design features on late 80s cars... its possible to do on quite a lot of cars but the rover 214 had it as standard... looks so clean! Love it.

One of my uncles had one of these new, it was even sh!te then, but for some strange reason i always kind of liked them, well, the thought of them, and nostalgia value more than anything else. I've seen 2 on the road in Ireland in the last 5 or so years i think. Must be nearly all gone here.
This has also reminded me that i used to see a guy around the place who had a a 416 with a honda civic SIR's 1.6 vtec engine. It was painted metallic orange. then possibly bright metallic blue
