And it was all going so well. I've been working on the Anglia for over year now unhindered, nobody upset by the noise, the mess or the old junk car.
Until today. The bloody local kids found me.
Is that a racing car mister? Is that the engine mister? Is that where the oil goes in mister? How fast does it go mister? Are you a mechanic? What are you doing to it mister? When is it going to be ready? What are you doing now mister?
Aaaagh leave me alone!!!
(Kids go away for about 1/2 hour or so)
Hi we're back now. Can we have another look at the engine again? This is my uncle Jack (who? I look up, old man standing there as well now) The man says it's a racing car uncle Jack, a racing car eh, not on these streets I hope?
Basically this means I've been spotted and I'm not going to get a moment's peace in the garage until they go back to school. NOOOOOOOOOO!

annoying that you cant get as much work done, but on the other hand it is good to hear kids taking an interested rather than slashing your tyres etc.
i think its actually quite nice to hear of kids taking an interest and not destorying it.

how old were they?
i'm always a bit worried when i work at a local council garage...but i figured provided your kind and polite to them, they are less likely to take a disliking to you...?

doesnt work like that round here rob. i was innocently working on my old type 4, some kids were playing footie, 2 of them made the point to come over to tell me my car was sh!t and that i was a wank3r. totally unprovoked. next day i caught them trying to break in. threats of violence ensued, a trip round to their homes and more threats made to parents and i got no more hassle. for a week or two. todays society sucks.

Yeah they're good kids I think. Only about 11 or 12 years old and I see them all time out the front on their bikes. They live in the next block but there's a wall between us and them so they don't normally see me. I was just enjoying the peace and quiet It probably means I won't be able to spray it until they go back to school either. I normally rely on the fact that there's no-one around during the day when I spray 2K but I can just envisage being in mid spray, a kid wandering in and dropping dead on the fumes. Hmmm.

At the risk of sounding old, I remember seeing guys work on their cars in the early eighties with awe and I was generally too respectful to ask silly questions. It really saddens me when you get little scrotes breaking things for the sake of it. Every one of my cars has been subject to some damage because they stand out a little.
Blame the parents. Its their fault they passed the idiot gene to their offspring. There should be a common sense test for parents to see if they're fit for raising kids.....

I know the feeling. Last year when I finally got round to firing the Benz up after being laid up for months on end, I had a load of kids chasing me down the street shouting "He's got it going!" Which, I suppose is nice really that they showed an interest. And they're probably not the same f*ckers who stole my dustcaps (I checked their bikes ;D) Although I'd rather have been a bit less conspicuous as I didn't have a MOT at the time

I appreciate your concerns and sympathise (sp?)! when my MonstrosityCapri was parked at my mechanics house there was loads of Mr Mr stuff, annoying but good, could certainly do without em! the mechanic usually got most of it. "Mr, Mr what engine has it got in it?" "Hmmm, it hasn't got an engine yet!!!" Once it was moved to the garage there was loads of smears and bike handlebar dents in the wing as they had malled it and the went up and down the pavement looking in the window! Then there was the kids next door to my garage, coming round all 5 of them, makeing me look like a big paedo, Grrr "go away i'm busy tidying this garage" "Why" Arrrgh!!!!! Ald this lad nicked some of my garage ornaments! GRrrr Seriousness, its great they are interested but they definately lack respect, good discipline and manners, blaming the parents here BTW. They are probs only half interested cos they are bored, i'll entertain kids so long os they behave and have respect. parents should step in. thing is the parents scare me more!!!!1!

I know the feeling. I never had any real bother with kids at the lockup, 'cept for one local oik who's conversation consisted of "why don't you get a proper car" "you look like a woman with long hair" "are you a puff" "are you a kiddie fiddler" etc. Nice. The local 12 y/o crew just asked dumb questioons "why do you like old cars?" "why is it rusty?" "why doesn't it go?" and climbed on the garage roofs and stuff.
However same kids used to give my mate real stick, he had his car in the same block and they used to nick his tools, and drop their pants and display their private parts at him etc. Then they said they'd tell their dad he "touched" them. Stuff like that.
I had both garages down there broken into.
It was worse when I lived at the other house and the local kids came round the house. Nowhere to go to get away from them. Again, nothing too bad, but 6 - 7 12 - 14 yar olds lolunging on your driveway telling you that you "should have bought a BMW" and "whats the point its just an old banger" when your working on it gets old real quick.

jonny69 in da house: Until today. The bloody local kids found me.
Welcome to the world of kids!!!!
I have that every day, kids come into the shop with questions about everything "do you own all the bikes??", "are you rich??", "how fast is this??", "my uncle drove 270kph downtown the other day and the Police could not catch him!!", "please can you give me this hemet?? why not?? you'r stupid!!", "can we have a catalog???" (6 kids take one of each of my catalogs, later I find them outside on the ground!!!) and on it goes...
Normal scenario:
3-4 kids @ 7-10 years old come in...
Me: Can I help you guys???
Kids: No we'r just looking...
Then the kids procede to look at all the bikes & mopeds WITH THEIR FINGERS!!!! What's the deal??? do they have eyes in the fingertips??? They just have to twist the throttle on EVERY bike & moped in sight, I have to say that 99% of adults also just have to twist the throttle but not on every bike. The kids procede to "look" at the helmets, handlebars well almost everything....
Me: You guys please don't touch everything....
Kids. OK we'r just looking....
WTF!!!!!!
DP says: I try to contain myself since some of them might be potential customers but sometimes it's hard.....

HAHA! ;D we used to go to the bike shop too but all we did is literally look most of the time, no cheeky questions, and took a few broschures. In fairness i really was going to come back on my 16th birthday and buy either a Vespa 50, or an Honda Vision met-in or even a gay pink Mini Vision! Hey it was the 90's alright!!!!!! We did once take an engineless Reliant robin for a spin though, wasnt my idea!!! Shame

Lol..I used to go down to the local bike shop and look at all the nice things and ask to see the helmets etc..then i bought my first bike with paperound money and kept going back for bits, then a mate got a job mechanicing there and I used to get mots and spares there or just pop by for a chat and a brew. Good times. Where we live now other gardens back onto ours and I've had the lads from the closest garden asking me if my car was built by 'pimp my ride'..not sure how to take that one..anyway I caught them having a crafty fag so now I have the upper hand! ;D

It sickens me every time I think about how stupid and nasty people have become. It's getting worse too. I'll be keeping my Chamois under lock and key, or I'll have my butt parked in it if not. Stupid questions will be ignored. I'm

or an Honda Vision met-in or even a gay pink Mini Vision! Hey it was the 90's alright!!!!!! Wow i had a brand new one of those when i was 16! It was a choice between one of those or a Yamaha Salient. My mum would not let me have a Motorbike looking one! It was an E Reg, i trashed it, it was when i didn´t know how to look after things. If one was to come up cheap i would buy it just for the memories. As for kids well it is like the 80´s in Banham, they just ride around on their BMX´s and put the thumbs up everytime they see me. Where i lived before in Basingstoke, they were little and big W&nkers and you had to be careful as they would probably nick something or cause damage if you said the wrong thing.
