As above really?? Just read on..ahem..a certain (and rather enertaining) thread on the readers rides section about cleaning out carb jets by putting an old rag over the top??
What and what??
I think one of my jets is blocked a bit, so could someone explain this a bit for me?
Thankyoucheerssoverymuchly.

think the idea is that by blocking the air supply to the carb, the more fuel is sucked through the jets and the increase in vacuum sucks the blockage through the jet and clears it.
thats from something I read in passing a few years ago, maybe someone has other ideas.

The idea is to rev the engine, smother it with a rag in the intake, keep the throttle opened and just before it dies, remove the rag and let the engine breathe again. The theory is that the increase in vacuum sucks out any debris and/or blockages. Never tried it (never needed to) but it doesn't seem too bad to me, alot better anyway than a lot of the backyard bodges I've heard over the years

Tried it and it works on the odd occasion except i use me hand in a decent mechanix glove, rag tends to get sucked in the carb and ends up making LOTS more work

ive used this plenty of times before i realised my fuel filter was nackered. was taught it by an RAC guy of all people. The way it was explained to me was just as joostvdw said. sounds and feels like you're torturing the poor engine, but it get me running fine again a few times after konking out.
