Anyone remember this from the late 80s? Redline mag posted it on their Facebook page and it brought back memories, my Uncle who was into Autograssing talked about doing the conversion to his base model Escort 1300 track project. Can't remember anything else about the conversion, so does anyone have more info? Who was it made by? A fibreglass Sierra kit car? ![](http://i.cubeupload.com/0Bc8PC.jpg)

Surely it would of been easier and cheaper to sell the mk2 and buy a base model 3 door sierra?

According to the DVLA, the Sierrascort left the road in 1996.

How come it's on an A-plate, if it's a mkII underneath...?

Even a base model Sierra was nearly 10 grand new, so would have been much cheaper to build a kit version.

Isn't that mag is dated 1988? (thats what it looks like on my phone screen anyway), I'm sure by that point you could pick up an early base model 3 door sierra for a lot less than 10k

A lot of people would have had fast escorts that had had a lot of prep work done on them for racing or rallying, an update to a Sierra shape could have been attractive, especially if you just wrapped your escort round a tree or into a tyre wall anyway.
I can see a point to it, but it obviously wasnt enough of a point to make any money, it would have only really been a viable proposition for a few years until Sierras got cheaper and the race bits had arrrived in the shops.

A man with a bit of foresight would have made an escort body to fit a sierra chassis.
That'd be a recipe for making money, the way things are now.

possibly, but siertra suspension has been tried in escorts and it don't work particulally well, after 40 odd years of development theres not much you can do to improve whats already available.
There is an enterprising guy trying to get enough orders together to get some mk1 shells built in China, nothings happend to far though as far as i know, its probably still cheaper to bring in clean ones from Oz and Malta.

Ha ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) interesting to see another car being used as a base for a Sierra kit car, rather than the Sierra being used.

Looks interesting, shame there's no price for just a shell ... good find tho These are epic. Think Retro Ford had an article on their first customer car! Space framed race car ;D theirs talk of new Escort shells, again it was in an article in Classic Ford this month. As for the Sierra, definitely seems back to front, but I suppose those were the days when you could buy a Mex or RS for pocket change ![:'(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/cry.png)
