A while ago I put a 'begging' letter up, looking for help with getting the Valve Lash set on the 289 in the gasser. James (jrevillug) was the first one to offer some help. It took some arranging with weekends being booked and then family stuff getting in the way, but we finally managed to meet up yesterday. Although we didn't manage to get the engine fired up because of mysterious electrical gremlins, it turned over long enough to establish that he'd done exactly what was needed and the valvetrain doesn't sound like a bag of spanners any more.
So, a public vote of thanks goes out to James and hopefully I can find and squash the gremlin next weekend and report that the small block finally 'Lives' after four years..
Thanks James, couldn't have done it without you. ;D ;D

James vilerug is officially a HERO! His engine wiring skills on my Benz transplant were legendary & I'm sure there are countless others amongst the A:52 regulars with similar stories

The guy is an all round LEGEND! As well as being a master of electrickery, he also loves the challenge of getting very old engines running after many years of not being run. Just a couple of examples: My Hustler Sport after 22 years being stood in a barn. I thought the engine would be a gonner... The very same night he also helped to get the engine in my other Hustler running. No video of that, but it was an epic effort....again it hadn't been run for 22 years. Both engines were incomplete, but robbing a starter motor from a Toyota and g-clamping it in place, along with other of James' great bodges tricks saw the engines come to life. A while later he also got the engine of the Fairlane running against all odds! This had also been stood for a good many years There are plenty of other engines he's fixed/revived and he's a true credit to the RR community. Nice one James...see you in a few weeks

There is video of that! shonky cameraphone video, but video nonetheless (ignore drunken ramblings and what not) Ill put my vote in too, the chap is a legend! Will not be beaten when he has set his mind to something and has the knowledge to make things work too. LEG END!

Didn't he also play a decent sized role in getting the Mitsi running at the Gathering?

Stop it, you're making I blush! Glad I could help - and I really do enjoy mucking about with this stuff. There's no magic to it - but the learning curve is steep. Being thrown in at the deep end with an unreliable car is a good start. ;D
