If it were me, I would drive down a private road with the brakes lightly on and see how they clean up, then perhaps change the pads. Failing that, whip them off and check them for wear. If there is still life left in them, some action with a wire knotwheel in a grinder will clean them up nicely.

problem with that is where the pads were when it was laid up, there will always be pitting, deeper than the rest, this will give you terrible brake judder, clean em up and see but bet it is there!!

What I usually do is clean the disks off with a knot wheel in the grinder, then give them a rough up with some sandpaper as the knotwheel always seems to leave a slightly polished finish on cast iron. I then whack it back together with the old pads, go out on the road and do a few high speed stops. If everything seems OK I chuck some fresh pads in.

With the brakes being the only way to stop the car I'd just get new .. every time ..

What's the point if they're fine? It's only cast iron, if they're ridiculously pitted yes get new, but if they're not you're not gaining anything by fitting new disks.

I would have a go at cleaning them up but if there is the slightest bit of doubt afterwards replace. Your life after all is worth more than a set of discs!
A rule ive had a long time and stand by is don't cock about with brakes.

Another option is to remove all the discs and get an automotive engineering company to surface grind them. To be fair their costs only really viable if the discs are expensive new.
