Going to get the E30 back on the road this weekend. Having a bit of trouble getting it insured. It's a 316 with a m20 2.5 in it.
Any recommendations for companies that don't mind engine conversions. Called a couple of companies today and most wont insure it. One company reckon that they will only offer cover upto 20% power increase from standard. Sounds like utter nonsense to me!!!
Also tried couple of classic companies but as its parked in the road they wont quote.
Any suggestions??? The only sensible company has been Sky!
By the way I'm 27 with 9yrs ncb so I'm not a 17yr old corsa driving boyracer with multiple claims and no history!
Thanks

Try www.cherishedvehicleinsurance.co.uk .Greg who runs it is into his hotrods and is a regular on the rods&sods forum. Whilst building my project ive asked him questions to make sure i can get cover for the mods I'm doing so i don't end up with any nasty suprises.

Have you tried Adrian Flux? They've just covered me on my modified mini, half the price of my renewal.

my mate had a 318 with a 325 lump, could not get it insured anywhere near a sensible price. it turns out it is significantly cheaper to insure a standard 325. in the end had a mint 318 shell, and 325 running gear. an ebay purchase latter, a grinder and new vin tags it was insured. whilst probably not the best way to do it, and certainly not the most legit it was insured. well for about 4 months before it was smashed, and written off. Insurance co paid out fine though

UPDATE gone with sky insurance as they are the only ones that seem to be sensible although excess has gone up and they've removed the ability to drive other cars. How the heck are you supposed to stay legal and abide by the rules when they make it so difficult? I can understand why people partake of dody practices, don't declare mods to insurance or don't bother with insurance at all. Put simply we're penilised for do the right thing whilst others get away with things.

Both our cars have engine conversions. hers went from 1.8NA to 2.0 FI with over double the bhp. Mine went from 2.0 NA to 2.0FI and had no issues giving details and getting quotes. AF had my car down as a turbo AND throttle bodies and then wanted to charge me to change it. The TB's were on the last engine ffs. Sky = good choice

Sky are good untill you crash.
My brother was with sky insurance when he had his starlet gt-t. 4 Weeks after he bought it he wrote it off and even though he paid £2500 for it on ebay with a copy of the sale plus lots of adverts of other starlet gt-t to prove how much they were worth he couldnt get sky to value it at more than £1600 so he was £900 down in less than a month of owning it.

AF even messed about paying out an agreed valuation!
