An original Mini Cooper S with an engine in the boot isn't as sacrilegious as you might think. In fact, it's quite an important curio from the annals of Mini history. In 1963, following the success of Alec Issigonis' twin-engined Moke project, BMC decided to develop a couple of Twinis to see how they'd fare in racing and rallying. The simple answer turned out to be: not well. One of the cars was entered into the 1963 Targa Florio, but the rear engine overheated and the car enjoyed no success. Nevertheless, it was an interesting idea and potentially, with further development, could have been a viable prospect. The car we see here is a replica, and a faithful one. The base car is an original 1965 mkI Mini Cooper S, while both engines are genuine 1275cc Cooper S units with three-synchro gearboxes; they put out about 90bhp each and can be used independently of one another, so you have three options - a 90bhp front-wheel drive Mini, a 90bhp rear-wheel drive Mini, or a 180bhp four-wheel drive Mini. The car took around 2,000 hours to build and is finished to an incredible, award-winning standard. And now it can be yours, for the relatively bargainous price of £25,000. Just click here.

Wow, takes a brave man to cut up a 65 Coop! But it does look fantastic, in every way.

Very cool! There is a fellow who hill climbs locally who has a twin mini engined special. From what I understand he has been driving it a very long time. here is some footage from our local track
I very much like that Cooper though, love that sort of thinking.
"we need more power" *looks around* "Lets just put a motor in the back" "brilliant!"

nice. My old man used to grass track race a twin engined mini, and won allot of races as when I was a kid I can remember the things being everywhere! I've got the old programmes from the races somewhere, I'll dig them out and scan them. plenty of retro metal in there

didnt a twini nearly kill john cooper on a test run? ill try and find some more details edit: In the summer of 1963 John Cooper was badly injured in a terrible road accident when his prototype twin-engined Mini-Cooper saloon - one of his pet personal projects - somersaulted to destruction on the Kingston bypass. He took many months to recover and Ken Tyrrell obligingly took over as Cooper team manager while he recuperated.

Fantastic. I recall seeing one of these at Enfield Padgent some years back, possibly that one. Totaly in love with it I was, probably more so because it looks simply like a genuine works car. Nothing more, nothing less. I seem to remember twini mokes too? Twini 1380 turbo mentalist Moke FTW!
