I know this has been done to death and I've searched the forum top to bottom without coming to a conclusion. What size tyre should I go for to fit on my ATS classics I've just aquired. These will be going on a 60mm drop BMW e21 and I'm going for a stretched look to meet my low and wide ideas. I don't want an extreme stretch, i.e. anything that will risk handling/safety or having to run ridiclous psi, I want to run a tyre that will give the stretched look but with no problems. Reading on this forum has given me 3 sizes 175/50, 185/60, 195/45 and a local garage told me 205/50 (but I think that's defeating the point). I've heard that 175 is too much and 185 doesn't give much of a stretch so I'm not to sure what to go for... Any advice? Pictures would be appreciated thanks.

175/50 would give the most stretch out of those, but isnt really that much. 175/50s on 7s Front and Rear

When I was looking for tyres to go over 13x7s I decided on 175/50. Sadly I never got round to fitting them - funding ran out and then I bought a Datsun. They shouldn't cause too much hassle to get on, they give a little bit of stretch and there's a fair amount of choice available in that size. The Yoko A539 is popular.

I think you'll find 175/50s to be too small a rollling radius for an E21 in terms of both looks and performance, a 175/60 might be a better bet? ^ I think that SteB has answered your stretch question already ^.

175/50The absolute exactly perfect size for 13x7 absolutely no contest what-so-ever. Low profile and A little stretch, 100% safe and easy to fit.

Hmm... I can see the general concensus! They look ace on that photo. I'd already shortlisted those yoko a539s so thats good to hear. Rmad, do you think so? I hadn't really thought of that so far, suppose thats something to consider.
Thanks guys.

I hear good things about the Yoko, but if you can go a few quid more for Continental Sport Contacts you wont be disappointed - one of the hardest wearing, gripiest, nice looking black circles you can buy Either way, I wanna see pics of the end result
