hello, i would love some help on this topic - i bought some polo 6n coilovers to fit (bodge) onto my k11 micra for a cheap price, but one of them has been taken apart it seems (wonder why) but i havent had a proper chance to have a look yet. if there is nothing wrong with it - what grade oil do i refill it with? and to what level even. i have had a look on google but its not been very helpful. so any suggestions and ideas etc would be greatly appreciated - thanks also here is a picture of the rear strut, does anyone know what make this is? I'm certain its a kit from ebay but would be handy to know what one so i can get a single strut direct to replace this one if it is foobard. thanks again

they use cartridge inserts- they're not rebuildable/refillable.once they're dead, they're dead, its new inserts time.
they appear to be an early version (going by the colour scheme) of the raceland/TA technix type.

thanks for the reply dez, thats interesting - do you know where i can get these inserts? i assume its not worth bothering as it would be easier to buy another strut i guess, or a pair so they both match looks as though it can be bolted back together though, is there anything stopping me from just putting in oil and bolting it back up again? I'm going to the college workshop in an hour to clean them all up some more and get a better look at why it was taken apart in the first place and go from there cheers

oh nevermind ignore that brain fart, i thought coilovers were more complicated than they are. my only experience with dampers is taking apart mountain bike forks which obviously don't have inserts - here is the cause of the problem: you can't see very clearly because my camera/phone skills are off but thats a massive crack all along the top of the insert. previous owner must have let the top cap get loose and thought nothing of it which caused the damper to move and eventually caused enough wear for it to go pop. the strut this one is out of is a TA technix one so will get in contact with them to see how much a new insert is.

yeah, nowhere near as complicated (or user serviceable) as some proper forks.
last time i spoke to them they wont sell em seperately. only place that will do that are FK automotive in germany AFAIK.
6n polo rear shocks are identical to mk1 golf though, so with some ebay searching you should find some inserts that will fit.
