I was out before, giving my AE82 Corolla GT a bit of a run and had a bit of a sh*t your pants moment!!
I was giving it some off a roundabout, booted it in 2nd, all through the rev range, into 3rd & did the same. Changed into 4th and went to then back off, only to find the throttle stuck open. So I braked, but it felt like it was still trying to pull, so I dipped the clutch and the revs shot up, bouncing off the limiter. After 1 maybe 2 seconds, it stopped and drove normally. Luckily I was on very quiet roads with nothing else around. I looked to see if the pedal had gotten stuck under the carpet or something, but that didn't look possible.
This was the first time that I'd really driven it in anger at all, (only had it a month or so) and it's never done this before in 'normal' driving.
I was a bit unsure as to whether I'd imagined it, so I slowed right down, then booted it through 2nd again (obviously made sure there was NOTHING about). When I dipped the clutch to change into 3rd, again the revs shot up, bounced off the limiter very briefly, then back to normal as if it had released. This 2nd time was only very brief, the 1st time was quite a bit longer.
I then pootled very gingerly home! Once home, I quickly checked the throttle and it seemed to move freely. It only seemed to get stuck after a prolonged period open. Could this just be the cable, due to lack of use? The car has been used very little over the last month, and only done about 4k miles in the last 2 years. Obviously I'm rather anxious to get this fixed!
