well with the caddy now gone and the bits moving quickly the Trekker should be here pretty soon. ive already seen the floorpan which is in very good condition. The doors, bonnet, windows and roof are in great original condition I went to check the shell out yesterday and grabbed a few poor camera phone pics, more to come when she lands but for now.... wheres the sill ;D don't worry it has a full brand new set of inner and outer sills ready to be welded in it still has the cool but sometimes lost bits like convoy lights and map reading light next to the glovebox. other than the sills which one has been completely cut out the rest of the shell is in very good condition I'm a complete aircooled novice, ive owned a few but never worked on them at all, this at the mo is just a big mechano set it has everything bar an engine, so if anyone is hoarding an aircooled running engine to help a fellow RR'er please PM me luckily the chap selling is more interested in seeing her back on the road than making a quick buck out of someone so he's offering alot of help/advice more to come when she lands, i'll keep you posted

Wow! A Trekker! Not seen one of these for ages!
My old man had one when I was a kid, seem to remember it had a petrol-fired heater...?! And caught fire quite a lot!
Looks like a lot of work ahead but what a great project!
Good luck with it and consider yourself Bookmarked!

my word, nearly a year with no updates. shame on me !! theres sadly not been much to update on, caddys have been bought and sold in the process and Ive now found a top welder/mechanic to help with the resto.............. only problem is Ive bought this !!! the eagle eyed will see this one too needs sills, don't they all !! but.............. its a) mostly built b) has an eberspacher c) was last on the road 22yrs ago and d) is tax exempt so my efforts will be ploughed into the '72 before I restore the '74 ive got a lot of parts to go through in old boxes but these two pics I like so i'll share original german plates I believe retro tax disc!! anyone translate?? more soon hopefully (well sooner than last time) ps I'll be applying for a birth cert and getting an age related plate via DVLA asap as well

translation needed I think I just found your thread. Nice project(s)! ;D I'm from Germany, so let's see if I can help you out a little bit. This is the paperwork for the oval export plates below. The charge isn't visible but you can see the 10 DM safety deposit which you got back when the plates were brought back in "usable and clean condition". This is the certificate for the emissions test. This is the purchase contract between Mister ... and Mister ... It was sold: The Volkswagen VW Kübel, open Type: 18-63, color: olive chassis number 1822908923 engine number: AG 008884 build year: 1972 mileage: 61940 km As seen and test run. Any liability by the seller is excluded. The price is 780 DM. Payed in cash. The buyer commits to immediately arrange insurance and international registration. Seller / Buyer I received 780 DM today from Mr. ... original German Plates? soon to go back on too, I love em !! This is why I actually registered last night: These are not only original old German plates but original old German Army plates. Only the Bundeswehr has "Y-..." plates and I'm a bit confused how these ended up outside of Germany. The oval plates are old export plates. As I said above Mr. Thornhill was supposed to send them back in order to get his 10 DM safety back. Neither of these plates should be on the car, should you decide to drive to Germany. You can find informations about both plates here.
