I went in a Piazza T when they were nearly new and I thought immediately that I was in a fragile car. Very raw, ancient kind of turbo power delivery like R5t, but the interior and exterior very fragile. Fast, good handling but not really buyable unless you've got lots of maintenance, insurance, running funds, imho.

^As with others I like 'em but they're not for me.. Too small / old / british etc etc etc:D It's gotta be a reliable (mostly) daily and all that Jazz. Though I know that's very much subjective. Hmmm.... They're not that small/old (though very British, especially with that name! ). Mine's never broken down on me "in action"

Fails on the RWD requirement, but what about a Volvo 850 T5? Certainly get a saloon for your budget, and probably find an estate with a bit of searching. A hundred million police miles can't be wrong!!
Again, not RWD but what about a quattro of some flavour? Doubt you'd get a ur for £1500, but I seem to recall an A4q for sale on here not that long ago.

Spitfire's cheaper than 1500? They're the only British classic car I really like, thought they were Stag money (ie. ridiculous).

TT Supras are all import only sadly. Try Supraforums and mkiiisupra.net for full info and mega help with a hunt. Mine did 25 to 30 mpg on a run, but not so good in town. Plus it was tuned to 380 brake and i have a foot of lead.

Supra turbo, ace cars, buy a good one and you'll never regret it, head gaskets do go but really they're not the end of the world and oitherwise they're bullet proof and with only minor mod will keep up with just about anything...

Thanks folks..
Piazza - I can see what you mean, I got that impression just looking at pictures of them:D
Volvo 850 T5 - RWD is the one thing I'm deffo not compromising on! Glad you mentioned 4wd quatros and the like though, in my mind it just changed from RWD to NOT FWD, I'll investigate the 4wd options too, thanks.
Supras - Thanks for the infos, liking them more and more.
RX7 - Good thinking! I'd be more interested in an FC but yah, I'll add them to the search list.
MK2 MR2 - Hmmm, interesting infos.. I'll try the insurance - Am I right in thinking they've got little rear seats? Anythign will do. What is it like on MPG and are they available with LSD? Had any drama with yours?
XJR - Just too big and heavy and limmo-like for me, but ta...
Sierra XR4I Carlton 3000 GSI don't float my boat for some reason, but the Alfa 75 V6 190E 2.6 are worth investigating, thanks.

A 1500 won't set you back much more than... well, £1500! Concours and top notch car are obviously more, but mine had 10 months MoT and recent bills for lots of new parts, and cost me £1300 (advertised for £1,750, I was feeling hagglish ).

The only downside with the quattros is they tend to handle like a FWD with lots of grip i.e. when pushed they understeer. Well the early ones - up to about 1992 (the latest I owned) - certainly did. I don't know if the dynamics have improved with later models like the A4. It is all to do with having the engine hanging over the front axle line.

That seems like no fun at all... It'd have to be something pretty special to make me stray from RWD anyways and later quatros don't inspire me.
That soarer, like 'em, but god dam why so automatic?! Deffo not compromising on that, I'm not a fan of autos at all.

E36 328 sport. for me it would be no question, fills your criteria and are amazingly good cars in my opinion and i've owned s13, soarer, rx7, etc, nothing was as good as my 328.
