Thought I'd ask here as it's where the cool kids hang out.
As the title says really, I'll soon have £1500 ish for a car, and i'm struggling to make a decision.. It's about £1000 more than I've ever spent on a car before, new territory for me. I say £1500 ish, but above 1500 would be stretching it a bit, though for the right car - who cares.
Requirements?
RWD.
Power.
Manual.
LSD would be very nice indeed.
Nimble ish.
A boot or some sort.
Not too crippling MPG, but I accept that the above options don't lend themselves to thrifty motoring.
Simple and cheap enough to service / fix myself.
Subtle is good too, subjective I know but I don't want anything too flashy and "look at me!!"
Also: Insurable. I'm 29 but no NCB as i've been on a classic policy for a few years.
The first thing that comes to mind is a Celica Supra, but finding one for £1500 ish isn't easy, and if they exist they all seem to be in ireland. Dam RWD hoarding Irish..
Other thoughts:
E30 325i - Insurance - £500 odd - mpg hmmm, could be worse I suppose. A classy gentlemen version would be nice, but anything blacked out with an m-sport bodykit shouts dealer to me.
MK3 Supra - Got a quote for £250 insurance on 3.0 turbo.. They're big heavy sods though, I can't imagine MPG is great and they seem more tourer than sports car. Happy to be wrong about this though.
S13 - so hard to find an un messed with one so haven't investigated insurance. S14 out of budget.
MR2's and MX5's look great fun but I think I need 4 seats and the ability to take my bike places and whatnot.
Open to any suggestions if you got 'em!
