What is the size of tyre I could safetly stretch over a 8inch wide steel? I have found something of sheer evil! P.S. retro pic to make up for BS way of this thread.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Even a 205/60 is quite a stretch, the caterham boys find that a lot of garages refuse to fit them to their 13x8s, 195 is really pushing it and will limit cornering ability, 185 is silly and 175 is definately only for show use really!

Those 175's don't look hugely radical - I think I'll have a go with 195. It's a capri - so there is little cornering ability there in the first place.

I couldn't get any tyre fitters to put 205's on my 16x8.5J rims. I had to get 215's, which is a stupid size! I'm needing new front tyres though, so I might see if I can twist the arm of a fitter to stick 205's on. otherwise it's gonna cost me a fortune

On my 7's I actually went for 205/50/15's ended up with 195/55/15 look perfectly normal IMO, although i'm more careful with kerbs now, so they would give a stretch of 8's. depends what you want really.

Gah curse word - that would look way to 'euro' on a capri. 205'll be cool.
P.S. whats with the engineless polo - plans?
