Cool - some great bargain motoring going here guys!!!! Should imagine you are all very wealthy people with all that money you are saving ;D I haven't got below the £500 mark yet - which is about what I paid for the Derby (had only 24,000 mile at the time) It probably owes me about a £1K now with maintenance/lowering/wheels + tyres & speakers. Paid nearly £13K for a brand new Peugeot 206 Dturbo (with some 'SP' bits) Back in 2001 - nice car, but what was I thinking - I blatently should have plopped a nice deposit on a house

Finance = interest, meanwhile the car's value plummets, you'd have to be barmy to sign up to that.... House, and improvements to it, is about the only thing we would now borrow money for, everything else we only buy if we've got the cash for it and can pay outright. Is that old-fashioned? The cars are an extension of that.

Cheapest was this helios blue (very rare apparently) Mk1 GTI Pulled out of the barn it had been kept in for 2 years, cost me £50 and sold the same day to my mate Dan who towed it home. He ran it for a couple of years, sold it, then bought it back again. Chevelle is easily the most expensive and seems to be getting more expensive everyday.

Cheapest- 83' BMW e21 316 £225, but has needed work since + mods so it's nearer £800-900 now so far...
79' Range rover offroader £300, strictly SORN but worth every penny. Body's rotten but chassis, engine and gearbox are fine. Tyres were worth near as much as I paid.
79' Land Rover Series 3 £800, my old man brought this home and it's been trouble ever since. Footwells rotten, bulkheads rotten and its a NA 2.25D... it's been on axle stand ever since since the hub seals went and covered the drums in oil. Waiting to be put back together.

I have had a few Free usuable cars, including my present merc runnabout.the 280....and the most expensive?...hmmm,that had to be the '63 plymouth Fury, running a red hot 360 LA small block ,torque flight ,sixties mags,it was semi rat car with a really bad paint job but the hardtop styling is so cool no one noticed.I sold it when the exwife decided it was too old.the curse word is long gone and I will never earn enough to get the Plymouth back ..Seriously Expensive!!!!

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Touchy subject ATM, one of my neighbours is a complete <insert F and C words here> and has reported me to the council for running a business from home, selling cars! WTF! Just because I've had four different cars this year.... So I'll be explaining all this to HMRC and the Council next week anyway. Cheapest daily driver was £50 for a Sierra GLSi with no test. It cost £300 all in, fully serviced, MOT'd and taxed with four new tyres. I put a few thousand miles on it and sold for £285 - not a bad result. Cheapest legal car was a Sierra 1.6L for £40 but it was a proper shed. Only bought it because it was cheaper than getting a new set of locks for mine! Dearest for me was my '97 Escort 1.8i Ghia saloon.... £1,500 with "light" o/s/f damage, cost about £300 to repair. But it was never very reliable and used loads of fuel, so I sold it after 20 months for £900. House, and improvements to it, is about the only thing we would now borrow money for, everything else we only buy if we've got the cash for it and can pay outright. Is that old-fashioned? The cars are an extension of that. Amen to that! Common sense!

Cheapest = MGBGT £200 quid ok it was a total rot box and everything was replaced
Most I have spent = £17000 (non-finance) On the H Coupe, I refuse to do Loans or Finance for cars its just not worth it, So Saving is the way to go me thinks.

Cheapies:
The brown Belmont - £51 with 3 weeks' MOT and tax; could have been through the next one for under a ton but chose to do cambelt and some unneccessary bits..
The Senator - £102 with 3 months' MOT but a slipping clutch
My 405 - £150 with 9 months' MOT and 3 months' tax, but then spent £300 on getting cambelt changed and new water pump
Best cheapy - G-reg 740GLE saloon, 130k miles with history (all-important cambelt done), leather, all electrics working, zero rust, 6 months' MOT...£112. My brother has that one.
Most expensive? Always the daily stuff. Toss-up between two-year old Civic (£5,650) or four-year old Accord (£5,250), which is the current car. All my cars are cash-bought so no expensive retros for me for a while - as with Pog, J_S and SL, I'm piling my free funds into my house.
Mind you, I ordered (for the first time in my life) a company car this morning - took a lot of sums juggling but, in my circumstances, it makes sense, and most importantly frees up the NCB so I don't have to worry if any new 'shed' I buy has 'classic' status with the insurers.

cheapest car was the ovlov 340 that i was gifted, some bleedin gift damn thing nearly killed me.decided at random one day just to go straight on at a roundabout,40mph heading for a crowded shop is no fun.ended up giving it back. most expensive must be the lupo gti i had great fun but no boot space and lousy fuel consumption, but for smiles per mile worth every single penny, and because i bought it cheap from work ,i sold it on a year later at the same price as i paid for it.result ;D

I have ploughed about £1K into my Anglia so that I guess is my most expensive technically but still cheap.
Cheapest was a 2 litre Laser Capri that cost £50, sat on the drive for 6 months and appreciated to £100 when I sold it. Didn't even change my name onto the logbook, it just sat there.

My Rover was 4000 quid, a bargain when you see the spec of it. 12k plus spent on Engine alone. Only thing that has really cost me on it is the Headgasket that has just gone. Not the cars fault though as the Engine has overheated several times due to previous owner not wiring up the electric fans very well and them keep blowing things. Least spent was 175 on a mk2 Cava years ago whilst my Lotus Eclat was off the road. It never got back on the road! ;D

Until I bought the V6 Mundano this year ( £1250 ) the most expensive was a MG Metro powered Mini from a mate for £800 Other than that, a Sierra hatch swapped for 2 tyres, needed TCA bushes and sharp edges covered for test . £150 for an ex taxi GLXI Sapph', tested it, blew the head and sold it to 'sierra for about £200!! Free 1.8 Manta and 2.0 Rekord and a Kadett Coupe donor I've bought twice for £50 As for my many Metros, £75 to £600 for my last one that I used for 3 years and is still the most reliable car I've ever owned!!
