Hello chaps wondering if anybody can help or provide me with a little info and re-assurance.
I have recently found a 1990 Volvo 240 GLT with a standard B230E K-Jetronic injection system & M47 Gearbox.
The basic plan is to turbo this car, I have sourced a standard B230ET turbocharged engine out of an old 89' 740 with I think the M47 gearbox. It has standard Bosch Motronic Injection system.
Can anyone tell me of any problems I may encounter when making the swap or direct me to any relevant pages that can inform me of any possible speed bumps I can prepare for?
I plan to take the complete engine and gearbox with cooling system, engine loom and ecu and exhaust down pipe. Think I will need to salvage anything else?
I have already read that the exhaust run will possible clash with steering rack (need to get a bend in down pipe), flywheel will be different because of the injection system (if i take gearbox i should not need worry about that), the switching of the loom I hear can be a bit of a mare.
Some classy build pics are to follow if all goes to plan, fingers crossed!!! ;D

You will need to relocate the dizzy from head to block using bits from your old engine

Cool, thanks Ben. Do I just need to make a blanking plate for that mod from the back of the engine? Been on TurboBricks.com already they haven't really been very helpful, I don't think it is a common engine arrangement for those guys.

I'm afaid I don't know the ins and outs. That's about as far as I've ever researched. Get searching for a guy called Suterman. He's on here, and on most of the Volvo forums from what I've found. "Volvo 240 turbo guide suterman" on google brings up some useful stuff. Here is a guide I found on the VOC website

I find it hard to believe that turbobricks wasn't much help, unless the place has changed drastically since I was last there. Personal I would try and keep your 740 dizzy, especially if you want to keep the motronic management. Fitting and old flyweight dizzy would be a step backwards IMO.

Ben - Thanks will check it out, just want to do my best to prevent any impending doom. Will run into a few problems but should all be manageable the bits I have found so far.
Rev. - It's not that turbobricks hasn't been much help at all, just takes a longer for guys to get interested. Mainly when you have newbie next to you name!!

Maybe that's where your going wrong. I would use the search on there and look through some of the build threads. It's like this place and all the banded steels threads we used to get. After a while people can't be bothered to give the same old answers.

Fair enough I suppose, had a fair bit of helpful info off them tonight. Still unsure about following the idea through but I just feel as though I need that turbo hiss!

I could be wrong here but aren't you better off getting a B230FT or FK?

When i pulled my 740 apart i gave up on getting the loom out as it was tied into the complete car loom. In the end i just took enough to hook up my megasquirt. I cant really think of anything else other than the dizzy and exhaust which you've already mentioned. Just try and take as much from the donor as you can because you always end up needing random bits.

Good idea Rev. the loom issue has been my main worry in all this, do you think I could realistically get it all in and working over a couple of weekends? May be best taking it on as a project :/

This may not be worth much as my Vulva knowledge is somewhat limited: Check that the 240 M47 (you sure its not an M46) doesnt have a speedo drive and that it is in the diff. Because on the 740 the speedo drive if definately in the rear axle You will need the ET engines flywheel as they have the crank trigger on them Also if you have access to the 740 then the rear axle will probably be fitted with a "locker" so would be worth getting hold of If I think of any more useless info I will butt in again
