So, there I was rotating the tyres on the Datsun this morning. Got the front offside wheel off (I hadn't had a prod about in there until today) and noted the spring cup was a little flakey. Probably just the underseal peeling off a bit, I thought. No biggy. Actually, no. A prod revealed a rather large proportion of the cup skillfully crafted from filler! WTF is with that?! I don't mind a bit of 'comedy' bodging (oh look, this whole door is made of filler, LOLz, etc) but how did this pass an MOT in the past few months?! Anyways, that's brought plans forward a bit sharpish and I'll have to put my ideas into execution. This is the perfect excuse for new struts and springs all round that drop me significantly nearer the tarmac. ;D So, J-tin experts....where can I get the necessaries from and will they cost more than I've budgeted (ie not a great deal)? Ta chaps!

Agreed, filler, chicken wire, old news papers etc. in doors, wings etc is something you accept but doing something like that is just crazy!

Oh dear! thats terrible, however it will be loads better if you buy good struts and springs to add on. I'll be ordering KYB's from here but no listing about Datsuns, you could ask though.. www.buypartsby.co.uk/shock-absorbers.php

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

The bit that i don't understand (and this goes for carboar/newspaper/chicken wire sills too is why!!!! It takes ages to get filler and wibblepoo to look like it hasn't been bodged!!

Cost I presume BS. But agree that is bang out of the order. Wish my MOT'er wasn't a pedantic curse word and was as lax as that!

And could I get away with stock springs and those until I fancied going lower? yes but the ones i got i had to weld on the tube, you won;t be able to use standard springs here is a picture on one of mine complete with threaded tube The springs are about £15 each give or take, the kit is about £21.50 per side +vat www.rallydesign.co.uk/catalog/index.php?cPath=1358_532
