Well my '79 Classic Mini is coming along in leaps and bounds and this is another little project I want to do so when she is done I can have some music. I originally wanted to have a single suitcase that when opened would reveal a headunit & two speakers but then I came across this photo.. I would only be listening to my Ipod anyway so could cut the headunit out completely. Of course I'd need a feed from the battery, but what is inside this box? what is between the speakers and the Ipod?

Of course I'd need a feed from the battery, but what is inside this box? what is between the speakers and the Ipod? Just a small car stereo amp goes between the ipod and the speakers. You might have enough room in there for a gel cell battery to power it for a while too. I think the ammo box would want lining with MDF tho to get it sounding less tinny. The PVC tube at the bottom is acting as a bass reflex port and will extend into the box some way. Choosing the right diameter and getting the length right is a bit of an art. In fact here's what's inside:

I'm ready to try and build something similar. I have a Clarion radio cassette and CD changer, four Kenwood speakers and a 400w computer PSU doing nothing.
The ammo box example looks neat.

That's really rather cool, and I have quite a few ammo boxes kicking about.....

well I've just bought my self a TA2020 amp Cool, they're good little things and will give a lot more battery life than a car amp. look for the most efficient speakers you can find and your laughing.

got this lot of john off here today, tempted to either start a new system with the ammo box and/or make the speaker suitcase self sufficient If you're going with the suitcase with plenty of room inside can I suggest laying your hands on the cheapest jump pack you can find and stripping it for bits. They're not light, but it's a cheap way to get a decent sized sealed battery and more importantly a charger for it. Maplins often have a few on special offer for about £20. Then you just need to source an amp if you don't have one already in that lot.

Will this sort of thing work??? Ought to be just the ticket. Loud but cheap too. You'll probably need a 3.5mm stereo jack plug to two phono plugs lead too, like so:
(And a battery if you want it mobile of course.)

I have read up on some super geeky forums that these amps aren't amazing... For powering some small speakers though they should be ok?! Might be worth a go, it's only cheap
