Well Since this car is mainly going to be on the track now not on the road and insurance needs to change a lot I'm keen to start another thread again to show you all my progress and also hopefully have some input as I step into the unknown of chassis prep and semi space frame building! ;D
I have looked over a lot of photos recently from all over the place and have taken into account things Eric and other have told me about classes and whats required.
The power plant,
It was going to be bike engine but due to the class and prep I would stand no chance and although I'm mainly going to be going for fun I don’t want to be that heavily laughed at lol.
Since Ive got a suitable imp transaxle I'm going to build up the 1040 that came with the ginetta and go imp powered (the way it should be really!)
The chassis
With my newly acquired panels Ill be going form Davrian shaped to Rawlson meaning big changes to happen!
Ill be going back to full doors (thank god lol) and not hinged from the top don’t worry lol. Going to start with std imp ones with the internals cut out and plastic windows.
The front will be cut off and looking at other designs I think Ill retain part of the inner arch to use the front imp shocks but will probably remove all of the spare wheel section leaving only the flat where the pedal cylinders poke through and using 1” box section create the framework from bulkhead, inner arch down to front wishbone mounts.
The front will be then covered with a superficial covering in the Rawlson shape lol, currently thinking of using Zeus fittings after seeing them used on a sidecar outfit the other day.
The rear is the awkward bit for me at the moment, I'm trying to decide if I should leave a partial amount of the rear internal quarters and rear seat area or hack it all out and use 1” box section again (Ive got a lot…. For FREE ) which would be then covered in aluminium panelling for a fire wall etc. Again I'm looking to make the rear arches removable at track side so need to find the best way of doing it using Zeus fittings and also if that would be allowed in the racing scene!?
So what would be imp retained?
Main chassis, roof, front bulkhead suspension arms front and rear, engine and box
Also need to replace my rear cage with one of the correct diameter and include the frontal section, also need to find out if it can be bolt in or weld in only?
After all the hacking, welding, building Ill go back over it with the purple stick and orange decals.
Photos will follow and in my usual style continued updates as and when I can
Here it is at the moment
Cheers all
