The Cortina was started up for the first time today and settled to a rather growl like idle. This is the first time the cars new engine has been fired up in it's new home. For those who don't know, I have been fitting a 2.9 Cosworth 24valve V6 to it. See www.escortupgrades.co.uk/Other%20Stuff/Cortina/Cooltina!.htm for details. It's not quite properly sorted, I had to rig the coil pack by giving it a direct live feed to make it work but at least I now know where the problem lies. Sounded great with just a pair of down pipes for an exhaust. Only gripes were a suspect air leak with sluggish throttle response and run down and one noisy tappet that I knew about before installing it. Next on the list will be an accelorator cable (2.9 Sierra or 2.8i Capri) and a type 9 V6 spec clutch lever boot. Then sort the brakes and LPG kit. Anyway, chuffed as nuts!!! ;D

Cheers, a little while yet till it's finished but got a huge dose of enthusiasm again now! I still need to source some capri 2.8i front discs for the brakes and rebuild the master cylinder. Suspension is already on polybushes byt the rest is old standard kit. Also need to sort an exhaust system!

Thanks for the encouragement guys.
The donor cars brakes are mounted on the inboard face of the hub where as the mk3 granny donor has outboard mounted discs and sliding callipers (as with all modern cars).
I have however retained the brakes from the donor though as they were lifted straight from the Sierra Cosworth!
I am using spaced mk2 Granny callipers with Capri 2.8i vented discs (when I find some) to give better cooling as brake fade is the only real problem with 'tina brakes. Also means she can keep her original alloys. Looking forward to upsetting a few new Audi owners on the dual carriage way!
When it's done I'll bring it to a few meets/shows.
Smiler.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

Thanks guys. Didn't get to play with it much today due to a short lunch break but will hopefully sort the power to the coil pack etc.. tomorrow to make it more 'turn key' than 'hotwire'.
Then once the electrics are done it's off with the plenimb to fix the air leak.
