Hey guys, i'm sure many of you have had a similar problem with the older cars, so i was wondering if you could help, anyway, just ran the car through its MoT retest after replacing the 'faulty' Map sensor, causing sky high results on all three tests, CO, HC and the other one...
Its a lower result, but still a fail, any idea what it could be at all?

Is it a self learn system, if so it will need to be reset which l think means removing battery and recontecting. Whats the rest of the stuff like eg spark plugs, lamda sensor, cat and air filter like. Also check timing that could be out. Good luck ;D

I've had problems like this, even after replacing all the usual stuff concerned with modern emissions stuff (maf, lambda, cat etc..) i've still had a fail, a bottle of forte gas treatment in petrol tank and a quick blast around the block, and it always passes with flying colours.
I'm not a fan of additives as they're usually 'snake oils'... but this is one that has saved my bacon a few times.
Also make sure the engines nice and hot, take it for a good drive then straight in for its emissions test....

I'm also a fan of the 'Italian tune' method, but it really does depend on how far over you are. And if you tell us what car it is, somebody may be aware of common problem areas that could cause it

1.1 Ford Fiesta classic, 1995, 150k on the clock, but with an engine swap, apparently 40k on the newer engine. Its a HCS Central Injection, a simple, but reliable lump, not much to go wrong in comparison with many newer, and similar aged engines

ahhhhhh! In that case, change the oil, the plugs (if none of them snap), the air filter and the lambda sensor. Then thrash the living wibblepoo out of it and run the emissions with it red hot. If it still fails it probably breached the HG between the centre two pots. go on, ask how I know

To get a standard A40 this low, you'd have to dig a hole to put it in

I hate single point injection, it was a fiesta had me running round in circles as well, mine needed forte and a good thrash! the big injector dribbled like crazy at idle, it idled OK but the charge just didn't burn clean. Also if it's quiet at the top end make sure the valve clearances aint too tight, they prefer to rattle a bit i found? i spose cos it's an aincient engine in a modern car lol
