So, after a long, convoluted story involving running the Xantia out of diesel, having a flat mobile phone, tramping around dual carriageways with my five year old son looking for a phone, and then finding the Xantia had been towed and trashed by the recovery company, I ended up with a Mirca courtesy car.
Now I understand why people like them, it's chuckable around town in an amusing way (not quite as fun as an Imp, but hey!). Then I took it out on the motorway (200+ mile drive home!) and it kept creeping up towards 90 when I wasn't looking. That was with two grownups and two nippers and a week's worth of luggage in the car. It also managed amazing average speeds on the motorway with no bother...
For the record it's a 2 door S on a 52 plate, with I'm guessing the 80 bhp 1.4 engine...

This was a 1.0 16valve and it just looooved to rev.. Like a hire car, I drove it like I stole it... ;D

They are fantastic little cars, I have loads of respect for. Always hated them till I met my other half who has an M plate. It has done 135,000 miles has never let her down and still on it's original engine and gearbox which are absoluetly fine and it is still a h00t to drive!
Hers is the 1.0 16v and even with all those miles on it will still happily do 90mph on the motorway.

Remember when they first came out, one of the lads that worked in the Nissan dealership bought one and before he even frove the thing, he pulled the engine out and replaced it with a 1.6 16 Valve twin cam. 16 Inch Momo alloys and ahe had the full thing resprayed bright red, it looked fantastic. and went like a rocket. Looked a bit like a roller skate with the wheels, but went like it was on rails...Well untill he stuffed it

I can see so much potential in those Micras like Silvermachine's (K11?) Especially since *that* thread some while back on them. I'm seeing them in a different light now. But the new ones... well, I've never driven one so I can't really pass comment but they're ugly as fo0k! Perhaps they're good dynamically, but they're too new for me by far

We used to have a K11, a 1.3 Si. Nice handling car with decent performance. There's really not much I could critisise on them. I'd love to adapt the 1.3 twink into a small Datsun one days as it's a cracking little motor...like a miniture SR20DE. Our old K11... After buying this, the newest car we'd ever bought, and loosing a grand on it in a year, ddespite getting it ludicrously cheap, we've now gone back to old Nissans again ;D

Used to hate the old blobby micra's with a passion. But I've driven the 'latest' one as a hire car. Pretty decent drive. ugly? Well if FIAT made it people would probably say it was cute ;D
