I'm in the Market for a daily retro but before I get it on the road I want to fix it up and get it looking smart :-) BUT ha the law changed regarding SORN? If it's SORN do I still need to insure it even if it's off road and in taxed? I don't want to go steaming in buying a car and then not being able to afford insurance and landing a fine etc?
If anyone can shed some light on this I will be very greatfull

No you only need insurance if it's taxed. Please search next time, it's been asked like a shitzillion times already.  |

You sure about your facts there. I have heard that SORN will not be allowed on drives either now or in the near future??

Rather than starting a new thread on a very similar subject I will ask my question here.
Ive just sold a car that was collected yesterday that has tax on it and will be posting the log book on monday.
How long do I leave before telling my insurance I no longer own it as I don't want to get clobbered with a fine if the new owner doesn't have it insured.

I'd tell them sooner rather than later but if anything comes of it you have the logbook slip with the date to prove you were not te owner at the time, hope that helps. And I heard it from a few people that the law was changing so that if you own a car it HAS to be insured SORN or not? But I keep getting conflicting info on this |

It has to be either Taxed and insured or Untaxed and SORN (laid up insurance optional  ) |

Nothing has changed with regards to the actual SORN aspect. If the car is SORN it doesn't require insurance, can still be parked on private land (including driveways), garages etc.
What HAS changed is that you now no longer can own a car that is taxed but without insurance. Which is a bummer because it removes the amount of Taxed & Tested cars on the used car market because once you swap insurance to your new car you have to refund the tax disc and SORN it.
It was brought in to remove the amount of taxed cars on the road that people are driving around without insurance etc.

Bud I'm after something fun rear wheel drive, I have some 40 webbers, arches and small wheels as well as some other parts there's a bloke selling a lada riva I like the look of :-)
