Hi!
I'm needing a comfy car for a 60km/40 mile (one way) commute...
Idealy it would be an estate and a diesel. But as long a MPG is reasonable (40 to 35 MPG) and it drinks 95 octane fuels - I wouldn't mind a real-fuel car... ;D If you recommend me a diesel, it MUST have at least EURO 2 emissions! Everthing else is too friggin expensive! At 37.5€ per 100cc for non-Euro emissions, and 27.3€ per 100cc for Euro 1. So a diesel must be no bigger than 2l and must have Euro 2 to make sense... Hmm...
Next thing is reliabillity. I don't want to spend much time fixing it (sorting out some teething problems you have when buying old cars - that's OK and to be expected).
And, it must be cheap ;D
I'm currently looking into Merc W124 estates again, as I made very good experiences with them.
The thing is; W124 diesel estates have completely gone off the market and too many of them are basically scrap. My favourite ATM is a 2l estate (200TE) which fits the budget of about 6-700€ (still MOTd till may next year).
What I don't want or need:
- Opel/Vauxhall. I just don't like them... And the realy cool old stuff is too expensive
- massive cubic capacity & power
- good looks
So - give me ideas of what else to look for. My radar is too narrow to look beyond my own nose (=W124) at the moment And as things changed much faster than I hoped for, the W123 will not be ready in time... And the Mini - yeah, maybe I'm getting old... It's too loud & rough (& exhausting) as a commuter...
I need/want something 'relaxed' that doesn't fully kill me after a hard days work...
Thanks!
